Talk Me Down

Beatriz.

I couldn't sleep. The monsters below my bed wouldn't let me.

In a few days now, we will be facing it- the game, the pressure, the adversity.

Even if they've told us before the training started that we shouldn't feel any pressure and that we should just enjoy, you can't ignore naman the fact there will be a lot of people expecting us to be on our prime game. Others pa nga, even if the games haven't started yet, they've started throwing rocks at us. As if the sands of our own low self-esteem aren't rough enough.

Politics- the endgame of democracy.

So anyway, I'm at home currently trying to read my distracted mind out- a tedious attempt.

I rest myself on the cushion headboard of my bed and closed my eyes. This routine has to stop. I tried thinking about sheeps, Ferris wheel and even Stephen Curry bringing me a bouquet of red tulips pero wala talaga.

Heavy heart.

Is this what she meant when she said that?

From: Bea

Enlighten me on the subject of heavy heart.

I guess three weeks could not even beat #FrienshipGoals. I got a reply in less than a minute.

From: Jho

It lingers at night when you're all alone with your thoughts.

From: Bea

Do you have a heavy heart?

From: Jho

A 3-week old heavy heart. :(

I didn't bother typing. I called her, because truth be told, I badly want to hear her. She answered in less than 3 phone rings.

*Over the Phone*

Bea: Hi.

Jho: Hi.

Bea: Can't sleep?

Jho: Oo, eh.

Bea: What were you doing before I call?

Jho: Um, Candy Crush?

Bea: Is that the actual game or we're just using it as a code now?

She laughed at that. God, I missed her laugh.

Jho: Feeling ko, both.

Bea: So you actually installed the app? Wala na kayang naglalaro ng Candy Crush these days.

Jho: It might come in handy. Alam mo na, Ate Ella.

Bea: Kailan mo ininstall 'yung app?

Jho: Hindi ko matandaan, siguro almost 3 weeks ago.

Bea: You're really bored, you know that?

Jho: Well, you haven't been around, alam mo 'yun?

I sighed. I wanted to tell her it's been hard. That just last week, I spent my free time following her to her classes. That I intentionally dropped my Gatorade bottle in front of her so that I can say even just a single 'sorry' to her.

Bea: I'm sorry. Really busy with my courseworks eh.

Jho: Tapos na kaya ang exams!

Bea: Well, projects? Groupworks?

Jho: Stop.

Bea: I'm sorry. And nagkikita naman tayo during trainings, ah.

Jho: Hindi naman tayo nag-uusap. Palagi mo kasama si EJ. And what's with that Twitter PDA? Fnollow mo lang s'ya, big deal na. And you tweet each other habang nagkaklase!

By this time, ako naman 'yung natatawa. She followed through all of those? How cute.

Jho: Ano'ng nakakatawa?

Bea: Nagseselos ka ba kay EJ?

Jho: Hindi ah!

Bea: Whatever, Jho.

For a moment, the other line went quiet. I can imagine her face turning red. Aww, Picasso.

Bea: Don't worry, I won't talk to her na in front of you.

Jho: Too late.

Bea: I'll prove it to you tomorrow sa training.

Jho: Really now.

Bea: I promise you.

Jho: Okay.

And then I heard her yawn from the other line.

Bea: Someone's sleepy na.

Jho: Someone has to sleep na rin.

Bea: I guess so. I'll see you tomorrow?

Jho: Be good tomorrow, Bea, ah.

Bea: You'll see.

Jho: Good night, Beh.

Bea: Did you just call me 'beh'? Oh no.

Jho: 'Wag kang OA, tinatawag ko teammates natin n'yan.

And it was then that I finally found the serenity of sleep. Tomorrow is going to be great for me. For Jho. For #FriendshipGoals.
