"I'm really sorry about yesterday."
You don't look up from your notebook this time. You continue writing.
"Can you look at me?" He asks softly.
You look up at Tyler, but frown. Who does he think he is? You've known each other for exactly three days, and he's asking you to look at him.
"Please don't be mad. I-I was just...thinking again."
You shake your head and force a smile.
Tyler looks down at the grass, then back at you. "Can I sit?"
You nod.
Tyler carefully sits down, criss-cross like he did when you first met. He's a good distance away.
After a few moments of just looking at each other in silence, Tyler speaks up.
"I really am sorry, you know."
You shake your head. A real smile spreads across your face.
He truly does look remorseful. After all, he didn't mean anything. He just asked why you can't talk. And he took time to actually apologize. He's different.
Yet you decide immediately that you won't get attached to him.
Everyone leaves you eventually.
