Before Farkle knew it, the words were coming out of his mouth. "Riley, I–"
Then a familiar face comes up. It's Lucas Friar, the jerk from school that broke Riley's heart. He walks up to Riley and helps her to stand, then presses his face to hers, kissing her lips passionately. Riley's hands go to his neck, and they're stuck in the moment, no longer paying attention to Farkle.
But then Farkle gasps, and Riley turns, and in his eyes all she sees is pain. The pain of love and hurt and rejection. She realizes too late her mistake, and pulls away from Lucas, but Farkle's already gone. Lucas pulls her back in for another kiss, but she slaps him, hard across the face. His expression is confused and she glares him down.
Meanwhile, Farkle is running, escaping what he knew was gonna happen. He was so stupid, thinking that maybe a girl like her, so beautiful and smart and funny and kind, could fall for a guy like him? Just a shrimpy nerd who was scared of being rejected, and he was.
He should have known that she could only go for a guy like him.
Farkle gets into his car and drives off, fuming with anger. Nothing can calm him down now, and he slowly feels a tear dripping onto his nose. He sighs, and wipes it away, but two more replace it. He keeps driving, not caring where he's going, not wanting to know. It'll probably make it better if he stops caring at this point.
He finally stops when he gets home, running up to the front door and opening it, then slamming it behind him. His father is standing right behind the door, and Farkle stops only momentarily before realizing that his father is drunk again. Barely hesistating, he punches his father in the face stiffly and grimaces, pounding his way upstairs. His flops back onto his bed, staring at the ceiling angrily.
He was supposed to be a genius. How could he have been so stupid?

Riley gives Lucas a look that could kill. "How could you do this? I said we cannot get back together. Now back off, you creep. I have to go back after the guy that I really like that you just crushed. Goodbye, Lucas. I never want to see you again." She walks away, leaving Lucas speechless.
Running almost too fast for her own good, Riley runs through different streets until she finds Farkle's house. It starts to rain just as she sees his house. He's sitting on the front porch, his face stony with anger. He stood up and started walking towards her, his face softening as he saw her smudged makeup and near-tears expression.
Riley zips towards him, wrapping her arms around him. She snuggles into his chest and sighs. "Farkle, I never meant to hurt you. I couldn't stand the look on your face when Lucas kissed me. I swear, I don't have any more feelings for him. Well, the truth is, I really like you." Her face warms, and he lifts her chin so he's looking at her.
"I thought you'd never say it," Farkle comments, pressing his cold lips to hers, both of their mouths dripping with the warm rain. Riley kisses back, pulling his head closer to her own. Rain slips off of her eyelashes, and she smiles at Farkle under the kiss.
He pulls back, and she hugs him tightly. "I really like you too, Riles." Farkle finally says.
The rain keeps pouring down, and Farkle pulls out his phone, turning on a slow song. He looks it over. Neverland by Zendaya. He smiles. It's a song that always reminds him of Riley, her carefree attitude towards life.
He slips his phone back in his pocket and grips her waist, pulling her body tight against his own. And, in the summer rain, they sway back and forth slowly. He kisses the top of her head, wipes rainwater and tears from her eyes, and hums along while they whisper to one another the things that brought them to on another like this.
And for the first time, Farkle doesn't feel so alone.
