Week away

*6 months later, it is coming up on their one year anniversary and Ben's 17th birthday, after he had done such a huge job for their 6 month anniversary and then spoiled her rotten for her 17th she decided to make plans, big plans, she knew he'd been getting rather stressed lately because he was having trouble with the the villains, they were refusing to allow their children to come to Auradon still and the ones who weren't their children refused to attend, he was finding it all rather frustrating so she had decided a break was in order, so that morning, two days before their anniversary she headed to meet him after his council meeting, unfortunately for her she caught him in a bit of a temper after having no difficult meeting*
Mal: hey Ben
Ben: hi
*she looked at him a little funny as he was rarely this short with her*
Mal: what's up?
Ben: don't even go there
Mal: umm okay, wanna grab something to eat? We could go have brunch just you and me
Ben: I can't I'm really busy
Mal: oh
Ben: sounds like I'm going to be stuck doing work about this stuff for like three days
Mal: three days? What about our anniversary?
Ben: what?
Mal: you and me, our one year anniversary, it's in two days
Ben: I'm to busy, we'll have to celebrate when this workload has lightened a bit
Mal: you didn't even remember did you?
Ben: Mal
Mal: no I see how it is, I'm sorry I took you too seriously when you said I would always come first, sorry for being so selfish
*tears burned in her eyes as she ran away down the corridor, he watched her feeling so angry and ashamed of himself*
Ben: damnit you idiot why would you do that?!
*mal ran back into her room and threw herself into her bed in floods of tears, Evie runs out of the bathroom in concern*
Evie: M what's wrong?!
Mal: he doesn't care, it's out one year anniversary in two days and he doesn't care! I had all these plans, I worked so hard for this because I know how stressed he's been and he just doesn't care!
*Evie gave her a huge hug and then suddenly there's a large knock at the door*
Ben: Mal! Mal!
Mal: I don't want to see him
Evie: I'll get rid of him
Mal: thanks
*Evie opens the door and he goes to walk in but she shoves him out and closes the door*
Ben: Evie!
Evie: no! Ben! No!
Ben: Evie
Evie: she doesn't want to see you and frankly I don't blame her, blowing off your anniversary like its nothing?!
Ben: I didn't mean it! It was a very bad meeting and I'd just been stuck in a yelling match with half of the council, please Evie!
Evie: no, she says she doesn't want to see you and I respect that, you should too
*suddenly Mal steps out rather sheepishly, tearstained cheeks, her breathing shakey*
Evie: M?
Mal: it's okay E
*evie nods and goes back into their room*
Ben: babe I am so so sorry
*she says nothing and avoids eye contact*
Ben: I didn't mean it
*still nothing*
Ben: Mal?
Mal: why were you in a shouting match with the council?
*the suddenness of the question and his inability to read her tone unsettled him a little*
Ben: the villain kids
Mal: they're not worth it
Ben: you were
Mal: give it time, if you act like you've given up you'll be able to tell which ones want to come by their reactions
Ben: I never thought of it like that
Mal: do you really have to work on out anniversary?
Ben: I possibly should but no, you're right, I gave you my word that you would always come first and I will keep my word
Mal: it's okay
Ben: no it's not
Mal: I don't mind
Ben: you do, I do, it's important, that was just something that came out
Mal: you forgot our anniversary
Ben: I know, it's terrible but I promise I will make sure we have the best day ever
Mal: I may have already made some plans
Ben: what you got planned?
Mal: your grandfather hasn't seen you in a long time, he invited you to visit for your birthday, I thought we could spend the week for our anniversary and your birthday, we could be normal people for a week, sit down for a meal together, go out into the town, but I mean if you're too busy
Ben: I'll still have to go to the council meetings but I can skip our anniversary and my birthday, it sounds great
Mal: fairy godmother agreed to give us the week off
Ben: how hard did you have to beg?
Mal: ive never begged that hard my entire life
*ben chuckles*
Ben: when do we leave?
Mal: tomorrow
Ben: I haven't seen or even spoken to my grandfather in a really long time
Mal: he said
Ben: him and dad fell out kinda
Mal: how do you kinda fall out?
Ben: hey didn't like properly fight or anything but they just don't talk anymore
Mal: well it'll be nice for you to see him
Ben: I can't wait to introduce you to him in person
Mal: yeah
Ben: he's gonna love you
Mal: here's hoping
Ben: he will
