I got to school late that morning so I made a beeline for the attendance office to pick up my schedule. The lady behind the counter was the same one from yesterday and she must have recognized me because as soon as she saw me she pushed her chair back to grab a manila folder off of the table behind her. She opened in and flipped through the corners of the papers inside. “Elissa Masson, right?” She asked.

                “That’s me.”

She slid out a yellow piece of paper with my schedule. “Check that it’s what you want before you leave.” She suggested. I looked over the paper. Some of my other classes had been switched around to different periods but they were all there, and so was my new history class. “Yes, this is it. Thanks.”

“No problem! Have a nice day and come back if there are any issues with your schedule.”

“Okay I will. Thanks. And you too!” I left the office right as the tardy bell rang. I didn’t bother getting a pass, since I was going to a new first period anyways I figured they’d let it go. I felt a buzz from my back pocket and pulled out my phone to see a text from Haley. Where are you?

Got my schedule changed. New first period. I replied quickly and put my phone away since we weren’t really supposed to have them out after the first bell.

I had Spanish first so I headed over to the foreign language section. I opened the door to Senora Garcia’s room. She looked up from her desk. “Yes Elissa?”

                “Schedule change.”

“Okay just take a seat in the back by Antanie for now.” I turned to see Antanie grinning at me. I threw daggers at him in my mind as I headed towards my seat.
