Lunch time was near enough ending, few students would travel to the hallway, some would just be finishing their lunch. Jane, Jake, Dirk and Roxy were chatting loudly as per usual, while Meenah narrowed her eyes at all of them.

"Jake?" Jane tapped his shoulder, big blue curious eyes wide as she spoke. "Can we talk in private somewhere? Over in the corner or something." She smiled.

Jake raised an eyebrow, nodding slightly as he looked at Dirk for a split second. They both got up, walking silently and awkwardly to the corner. Roxy turned to Dirk.

"Jake's got to ask Jane out, it's the perfect opportunity!" She grinned, shoving her arm around Dirk's shoulders. "Imagine it: Jane English. And their kids!! What're they gonna call them? How about Jack and Jenn? Or-"

"Roxy calm down, they might just go out for like a month and that's it." Dirk sighed, removing her hand politely from his shoulder.

"Psh, nooo! They're always gonna be together."

Jake looked at Jane curiously, placing a hand on his hip. He tilted his head.

"What's up, Janey?" He inquired.

"Jake, say, uh, a little birdie told me you fancy me! Hoo-hoo. Is this true?" She smiled.

"Uh, well, I, uh-" English looked around to his friends' table, unsure of whether to go along with his lie or not.

Roxy smiled ever so widely and gave him double thumbs up, Dirk simply nodded.

He sighed. "I suppose you could say that."

Her smile widened and her blue eyes glimmered. "I like you too! Does this mean we're dating? Where should we have our first date? Sorry of I'm rushing things, I've just liked you for so long and, yeah!" She nervously looked around, twiddling her thumbs. Her red earings glimmered in the cafeteria light, along with her blue rimmed glasses. Jane's figure was slightly curvy and chubby, but that's what made her adorable besides her personality. Jake had to say she was rather pretty in all honesty, but he just didn't fancy her.

"How about Friday?" Jake wasn't paying attention. "Jake?"

"Oh, sorry, what? I was distracted, sorry." He admitted.

"Oh, well, uh, how about Friday for our first date?"

"I have Sports Club after school for a couple of hours and I'm sure you don't want an exhausted man, haha!" Jake laughed.

Jane shrugged. "Saturday night?"

Screw it, no more excuses, Jake. But you can't keep dragging Jane on like this. He gulped. "Sure." His voice was an unsure whisper.

"I'm sorry, can you repeat that?"

"Sure."

~~

Now, it was Saturday night, and English did turn up at Sports Club yesterday with Dirk, who decided to watch. Jake is pacing back and fourth in his room while Dirk sat amused on his bed.

"Chill, English. It's your first date with a real girl, I get it's terrifying but Jane's a nice girl and won't judge you." Dirk stated.

"But... Dirk, look, that note it wasn't-"  Jake sighed, adjusting his bowtie in the mirror. "It wasn't a love letter. I don't like Jane like that."

"What was it then? Why'd you lie to her?" Dirk raised an eyebrow, but for some reason, he felt like a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders.

"I don't want to talk about it, but I needed an excuse and I don't know... Jane just came to mind and I said her name. I'm so sorry. What do I do?"

Dirk was no good with advice. He shrugged. "I dunno, just let her down easy. Go on the date, but break up with her nicely and shit, y'know."

Jake looked down at the ground.

"If it makes you feel any better, I'll give you a ride there, Jake." Dirk smiled. Jake smiled back.

A free lift to your own date. Sweet.
