Ryan's POV
"Yeah doc I get the picture, you don't need to take a year to explain it, it's getting worse I'm aware" I told my doctor when he came back in with my latest X-rays, why are they even bothering? There's not actually anything they can do to fix this
"You've got a few options lieutenant" god why do people use that title?! I'm not a lieutenant anymore! I'm a nothing! I'm the guy who got hurt and got sent home, they all think I'm some kind of hero, I'm not
"Ryan! My name is Ryan! For god sakes how many times do I have to tell you that?! I'm not a lieutenant, I haven't been in a long time now!" I yell, I mean I guess it hasn't been that long but it feels like s lifetime
He sighs, he does that a lot and it really pisses me off
"You know what your options are" he reminds me and I nod
I do know what my options are and I don't see the point in any of them, I don't see the point in any of this
Sometimes I wish that that explosion had've just killed me
It would be better than having paralysis slowly creeping up on me
At this point the best I'm gonna get is being a paraplegic but it's completely possible that I'm gonna end up a quadriplegic because let's be honest they haven't got a FUCKING clue what's going on
Apparently the shrapnel is embedded so far into my spine that they're not even sure what's where anymore or what's happening
They just know that it's getting worse, and it will keep getting worse
They won't admit what the end result will be but I know, I've just gotta keep going and live my life as much as I can while I still can
Chloe's POV
Okay Chloe stay calm, everything's fine, just because it's your first day doesn't mean you have to panic
Who'm I kidding? YES IT DOES!
I woke up at my alarm, 6:30 am, I had the quickest shower that I could possibly manage while actually becoming clean then jumped out of the shower and dried my hair as fast as I could possibly imagine anyone doing so
I chucked on some jeans and a fairly nice t-shirt, curled me hair then put on so light makeup and that was it, I grabbed my bag, stuffed my phone, house keys and car keys into it and left
I arrived 10 minute early to the veterans hospital and I was so nervous, I mean these people served our country and now they're here for rehabilitation and I'm helping them do that? That's terrifying! What if I mess up?
I took a deep breath and then walked in and headed to where the receptionist was
"How can I help you?" She asked politely with a smile on her face
"Hi um I'm Chloe Hosterman, the new carer" I told her, I don't think that's actually the title exactly but I'm gonna go with it, I'm sure she knows what I mean
"Chloe Hosterman......ah yes Chloe, okay so go. Down the hall, take a LEFT and then go to the office of Ms. Tyler, she's in charge, she'll give you your assignment" she explained, I smiled greatfully
"Thank you" I said to her and she flashed me another smile back then I left
I followed her directions and found the correct office, I took a deep breath and then I knocked on the door
This was it, this would change everything
