Okay, I just got the idea to discuss this topic because of an amazing rant book by @clara_loves_to_dance

This will be a partial rant and partial tutorial on writing here.

Most fanfictions (and many romance books) follow the rule of the heroine needing a boyfriend to be her best/to be strong/etc.

I will let you know that this is not acceptable!

As a female who's only had one boyfriend, I can tell you that having a special someone is not important, especially in high school. What's important during the age of 14 to 18 is getting good grades, finding a good college, and/or hunting down a job for the future. Romance is just a side thing we can live without during this time. Yes, it's enjoyable, but not necessary.

I believe fanfictions and romance novels should follow this if they wish to be more realistic.

These stories also need to stop portraying the heroine as a weak girl if she doesn't have a boyfriend to take care of her problems.

What happened to ever dealing with them on their own? What happened to where we tackle our own problems and become stronger from them?

Girls do not need a boyfriend to fix every broken thing in their life. Girls can do it themselves. Boyfriends are not the solution for everything.

Can we please have a romance or fanfiction where the girl doesn't rely on the boy?

The guys can still be there but have them be more supportive towards the girl instead of doing everything for her. Also give the boys some emotion while you're at it too. Many of them lack that element in their character.

I think I have that covered... So here's a list of things to keep in mind:

1. Don't make the MC weak without a boyfriend

2. Don't make the boyfriend seem like a superman (it's really unrealistic...)

3. Don't make the heroine rely on him

4. (Optional) Possibly cut the boyfriend out

I really hope this helps people out. It's a short chapter, but I think I've gotten my point across.

So.... Have a good day!
