Chapter 7

Your Kind

It was ten to eleven when the first rush of the day passed. Liam and Tom were quick, not once messing an order up or delaying. Unlike the five cooks before them.

Liam even chatted with the customers through the small window. Customers that never even said thank you were now laughing and talking like we were all causal friends. I must say Jason made the right call bringing them in. The diner has improved since Jason arrived as well.

The sign out front was newly painted with shimmering gold and dazzling emerald green. He ordered new fridges since the old ones broke down when they were filled. The floor was newly waxed which he must have done when I went home yesterday. Over all the diner was looking great.

Even Jackie comes to work on time which is probably because of Liam and not the diner. I think she likes him.

"Today sure was productive." Mrs. Lucielle beamed happily

We had more business today than usual. Mostly woman looking for the tall, dark and handsome Jason. Or the flirty new cook. Speaking of Jason he has been locked in his office since our in counter earlier.

Jack went in a few moments ago shouting at Jason to 'get his sulking butt out of his office'. They were both still in there but I couldn't hear them.

"It was a great start to the day." I agreed as I wiped my hands on my apron

"The women in this town are pretty but desperate. I like it." Liam said as he leaned his head out on the order window

"I swear you think with that pee sized thing too much." Jackie scoffed

Lucielle and I exchanged a smile. Jackie sounded a little jealous.

"My brain is not pee sized." Liam replied with a smirk obviously noticing Jackie's tone

A customer gave Jackie a fifty and walked out. She opened the cash register and said

"I wasn't talking about your brain."

I rose my hand up to cover my mouth. Liam's smirk dropped into a frown at her comment. Jackie grinned triumphantly at him. Lucielle shook her head as she fought to keep the smile that was creeping up off her face.

"That boy is worse now than when he was a teenager." Jack ranted as he stormed out his thick dark brows knitting together

Lucielle walked around the counter to her husband. She rubbed his shoulders a look of concern on her face. Jackie slammed the register close and stomped into the office.

A man lifted his mug up asking for more coffee, I went over with a kind smile that made the young man blush.

"He's living up to his Irish roots that's for sure." Jack said angrily

Lucielle sighed her forehead creasing as Jackie's voice boomed from behind the closed oak door. I couldn't hear her clearly but I did hear her curse, a lot.

"I need to go to the bank and get more change." Lucielle said as she grabbed her coat

Jack followed her, those two were always together. They are that cute older couple you wish you'd be like in the future.

"I'll come too. Can you hold down the fort till we return Gracie." he said rather than asked

I nodded, I was usually here alone anyway. Jack gave me a warm smile as he escorted his wife out.

"Leave that hot head in the office. Don't go in." he said sternly

What was Jason doing there that I had to stay away from him? Not that I would have gone in. I nodded again and waved as the door shut.
