Chapter 9

“Yo, what the fuck are you talkin’ ‘bout?” Carti asked, holding the phone to his face. He was tired of Taylor’s bullshit. The bitch was a psychopath. She was convinced that they were in a relationship. Relationship such as, commitment, trust, dedication, care… love. If she thought Carti cared for her in any type of way, she was fuckin’ crazy.

Carti had been fucking Taylor for a few months now and they kicked it every so often. He made sure not to send her mixed signals, and keep it straight up with her. Making it clear that he didn’t love her and didn’t want a relationship, and that she was free to step whenever she so pleased. But, she stayed and claimed that she understood but with the way she was yelling into the phone right now, Carti couldn’t tell.

Taylor cried hysterically into the phone, “You’re still fuckin’ wit’ that crack head hoe?! Why, Carti? Why would you do this to me?!” She cried. Carti sighed, running his hand over his face. This bitch, Carti thought. Carti backed out of the parking lot to the Red lobster’s restaurant and hung up in her face.

Thirty minutes earlier, Carti had been in the restaurant with Sierra, a chick he used to ‘mess’ with. They had attended the same high school, and fucked around every once in a while. It was nothing serious, and Carti had no plans on making it serious.

They were still talking when they graduated, and continued to do so over three years later. Sierra always wanted Carti to be so much more than her ‘Boo or ‘Best friend’, she wanted him to be her man. But Carti had specified on many occasions that he wasn’t ready to take it there with her or anyone else.

Months earlier, Carti and Sierra were at club Impact in downtown Detroit. Sierra was pretty wasted and had left Carti to go use the restroom. Taylor had been at the club also, she’d been eyeing Carti all night and took Sierra’s absence as a chance to confront him. She slipped him her number and that was how they’d started fuckin’ around. Carti never even called Taylor but she found a way to get his number, and he wasn’t about to turn down no pussy.

Not too long after that, Carti was told that Sierra was doing drugs. He had seen the signs but ignored them. Brushing them off, convincing himself that he was tripping. Not believing what was before his very eyes. He cut her off and started fucking with Taylor hard. He mentioned Sierra every now and again to Taylor but didn’t go into detail.

And now, months after he’d cut Sierra off, she’d called him to meet up at the Red Lobster, reluctantly Carti agreed. She looked terrible. Her once vibrant brow skin was now pale, and slightly blistered. Her full cheeks, which once bore the deepest dimples, were now sunken. The smile that was once always there was no longer. Her pretty long, natural hair was dry and matted to her head. Carti was disgusted with who sat before him. He had love for Sierra and would help her when needed but when she asked him for ‘help’ this time, he refused to ‘help’ her.

Sierra shivered, looking around the restaurant. She used the dirty sleeve of her dingy, gray hoodie to wipe away the tears that were forming in her eyes. “Carti, please… I need this. I n-need help. I just need something to help me get back on my feet…” Sierra claimed.

Carti shook his head, what had his friend become. “C’mon, ma. You think I’m stupid? Nah, you gon’ have to go to somebody else wit’ that bullshit, for real. I’m out, Sierra. I wish you luck, ma. I really do.” Carti said before seeing their waitress approach the booth with glasses of water on a tray. He stood up.

“Carti, please?” Sierra pleaded with him. Carti ignored her cries and handed a crispy twenty dollar bill to the blue eyed, blonde haired waitress. She started to question him but he quickly walked towards the exit and left the restaurant. Sierra came out moments later, rushing after him.
