Developing an Arsenal: Overwatch (The Unit)

Chapter 7: Collaborative Effort

Aaron sat down with Barnes at a bench in Overwatch HQ as they wait for Lawson, Apollo, and Atticus from their flight back from France. After hearing about what happened to the late French agent, Aaron looks at the ground in shock and guilt.

"I should have confronted Atticus. He looks a bit off after the mission. If I had been-" He was interrupted as Barnes holds an hand on his shoulder.

"Look, we barely got out of the swamps alive thanks to Overwatch. I didn't want to say anything after we got out, the place was so hot.

Aaron smiled lightly before he nodded. As he looks to his left, the two glass doors open to allow Apollo, Atticus, and Lawson into the hallway. Aaron and Barnes got off the bench and stood up. Lawson clears his throat before he spoke.

"I just got a call from Commander Morrison. This assignment will be a collaboration between Blackwatch, Overwatch, and us. He expects us to be at the briefing room in this facility all prepped up and in uniform." Lawson turns his attention to Aaron. "I see you are all well. Time to get back into the fight." He says pointing to the nearest locker room while giving him a key card.

"Understood, sir." Aaron acknowledges. He heads off to the nearest locker room to change. Heading to the locker room, he opens the door via keycard and enters to prepare for the fight that is about to happen. After he changes into his combat attire; green body armor,blue jeans and brown shoes. He grabs his balaclava, a ski mask decorated with the face of a skeleton. He wears it to battle, as he follows the classic Navy SEAL tradition of a pirate.

As he heads out of the room, Lawson waits outside nearby. "You look fantastic." Lawson compliments, giving off a friendly smile. "I'm going to lead you to the briefing room where you are going to meet with both commanders of Overwatch and Blackwatch, Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes. Please be good for them."

The Unit has made headway since it began, and now they are given the chance to directly work alongside Overwatch as partners.

"Yes sir." Aaron replies.

The two walk throughout the facility, passing by guards along the way. They come near a door, a wooden beige and brown color. Lawson opens the door, allowing Aaron to enter a room filled with rows of chairs and tables, occupied with soldiers of Overwatch and Blackwatch. At the front of the room stood a man with a blue jacket, blond hair, and a holographic eyepiece. The other had a mustache, a grey beanie, and an intimidating look on his face. They were both whispering a bit aggressively at each other. The man in the beanie was staring down at Aaron, making him shutter.

As Aaron looks around, he spots a table occupied by The Unit, up front in center of the room. As Aaron slides into his seat, the door begins to close, starting the brief of the mission to takedown Deadlock. The guy in the blue jacket begins to speak.

"Agents, before we can begin, I want to introduce our new partners". He nods at the squad up front, as if they were new students of a classroom.

"These soldiers are from J-SOC. They're the best operators they have to offer and will provide some assistance on the mission. I expect you all to treat them with the same respect, as they will in return."

As Aaron scans the room, he can already see a mixed reaction from the back rows. The Overwatch agents gave off smiles and friendly waves, while Blackwatch soldiers gave out intimidating looks and whispering obscenities at them. A few seconds later, The Unit sat down, allowing Jack Morrison to continue on. A projector screen lights up, showing different objects that seem dangerous.

"We have chatter about a weapons deal between Deadlock and their clients at Route 66. They are selling military grade hardware to them, allowing for criminal activity to intensify in the country of the U.S . This will be a sting operation, which is will be followed through several steps. We wait for both Deadlock and their consumer to show up, then once the deal is done, we will move in and bust the joint."
