LT.G Miller and Brigadier General Lawson were up at the head of J-SOC's work space having a quick meal that ordered from the dining hall in the facility after witnessing the footage recorded by a Predator UAV drone with many other bodies of the covert operations committee. Having lunch in the middle of the work place was commonly done at the largest military base of the United States as they deal with time consuming tasks such as coordinating military operations, intel reports, mission briefings, and budget meetings in between as they chew away what they ordered from the kitchen and sent to the office. As Lawson read several sheets of the mission report while chewing away a piece of steak.
"I'm glad we got our bomb back and The Unit returned home safely." Lawson mumbled with a tone of relief. Then, he places the papers away from his meal and looked at the head of J-SOC straight into his eyes. "We need to talk about what happened out in the forest. They nearly got wiped out by a massive group of Talon soldiers before having to fight to the nail with what is said to be a pair of 'special agents'."
Miller slowly places a hand on his forehead. "I know. From the footage of the UAV and the wounds those freaks inflicted upon your men, its clear Talon has been hiding their capabilities from the world and your team got a taste and lived to tell the tale." Miller shook his head from side to side. "At least they took out that man referred as Fire. How did they manage to kill him?"
Lawson smiled with a grin as his eyes scanned the paper again. "The report said The Unit confirmed the kill on Fire after pushing a tree of the cliff with the Talon agent tied with it." Then, his smile faded into disappointment. "But the other one they called Snow somehow disappeared after suffering some bullet wounds. We cannot confirm that if this Snow is E-KIA at this point. But how the hell are we going to deal with the fact that this thing could be somewhere in the world, waiting?"
Miller shrugged. "Unfortunately, our government cannot launch an international manhunt on a super.... villain. Miller's facial expression show signs of confusion, unsure if he was in reality or in the middle of a Saturday morning cartoon. "Anyways, Overwatch reached out to us as soon as they heard what The Unit fought against. They are going to do their best and capture Snow. They are going to make sure this Snow person won't come after your team. But I doubt Talon is going to operate like that ever again.
Lawson raises an eyebrow. "How can you be so sure about that?
Miller took another sip of water from his glass cup. "We looked over the information that relates to Fire and Snow. It turns out this was Talon's most dedicated and covert project ever, codenamed "The Avatar Project". They spent lots of money and resources to get to unlock the secrets. The files show that they could harness fire and ice. It's amazing, but dangerous. Anyways, Overwatch confirmed that the scientist that unlocked the formula either vanished with a spell of prison or met their maker."
Lawson laughed. "And with one of their operatives killed by a team of operatives from Delta and DEVGRU, it's safe to say this 'Avatar Project' is a colossal failure, along with Talon's convoluted plan to ruin the image of a global superpower just so Talon can fight their enemy, Overwatch, one on one."
"Exactly." Miller smiled. "You know, you should be proud of what a leader you turned out to be. I never knew the same soldier who inspired our country to fight against the machines would be the man who only asked for his services is to have a J-SOC strike team to control. And I think that was our best decision."
Lawson smiled. "It wasn't the war that got me thinking of pulling this sort of thing. It was when I thought of rebuilding what was destroyed." Lawson paused for a minute. "When I heard that the Overwatch strike team turned into a international peacekeeping group, I wasn't really sure about it." Lawson sat up from his seat. "When I inspired my men, it felt very overwhelming for me. Everyone looked up to me, hoping that I could win the war for their country against the machines.
