Song of the chapter:
Detention - Melanie Martinez

You felt a rush of excitement building within you, filling your veins with a giddy sensation. The mere thought of talking to your idol, Jeon Jungkook, had you on the edge of euphoria. You couldn't contain your joy—the urge to run, shout, and share the news with everyone overwhelmed you. Sitting still became impossible, and even the simplest tasks lost their appeal. Your mind fluttered like a butterfly, unable to settle on one thought.

Taking a deep breath, you switched on the microphone connected to your computer. Simultaneously, you activated your voice-altering software, ensuring that Jungkook would hear a modified version of your voice. There was no way you would risk revealing your true identity. The anticipation and exhilaration you felt couldn't be fully expressed through the smile on your face. It was an internal firework display, a surge of emotions that left you momentarily stunned.

"Hi," you nervously began, your voice resonating within the confines of Jungkook's bedroom, catching him by surprise just as he was on the verge of toppling from his swivel chair. "Um...if the volume is too high, please let me know."

"Holy fuck!" Jungkook's eyes widened in astonishment, scanning the room in a flurry of excitement. A smile spread across his face, his eyes glimmering with curiosity. "I didn't expect you to actually go through with it. You truly are full of surprises, mystery girl. By the way, is that your real voice?"

"Sort of," you responded, relieved that it was your own voice, albeit slightly altered. "It's a pitched version, not far from my actual voice. But don't get too excited about it, Jungkook."

"Oh, I'm way beyond excited," Jungkook looked up at one of the cameras he had discovered earlier and winked. "I'm amazed! This is thrilling."

"So..." you hesitated, biting the inside of your cheek. "You're not creeped out or scared of me?"

"Creeped out? Maybe a little. Scared? Not at all," Jungkook chuckled, leaning back in his chair. "You're my unexpected admirer, after all. You seem to know everything about me, my every move. I can't hide anything from you. You hold all the power."

That was understandable, given the situation. It wasn't every day a fan could talk to their idol, let alone someone with such an intense fascination. This interaction was riveting. "But why aren't you scared? I have the means to ruin your life and expose your secrets. What if I'm a secret cop?"

"Because, strangely enough, I feel a connection to you," Jungkook confessed honestly. Connected? Your heart soared with joy. "And maybe it's just because you and I are so damn messed up. I mean, we have to be—right? Why else are you stalking me?"

"Because I love you," you poured out. "I admire everything about you."

"Love," he mused. "What a complicated word. You must be quite twisted to claim you love someone like me. Hey, how about we play a game of twenty-one questions?"

"Hmm," you contemplated the idea, leaning back in your chair. "Alright, but when it's my turn, please don't ask anything that would reveal my identity, as I won't disclose it."

"Agreed," Jungkook nodded, understanding the need for caution. "I won't pry into your identity. Let's keep it fun and light-hearted."

"Okay, let's start with something simple," you suggested. "What's your favourite colour?"

"Red," Jungkook replied with a genuine smile. "And what about you?"

"Same as yours," you responded. "Now, onto the next question. What's your favourite food?"

"Pizza," Jungkook answered promptly. "Now, here's my question for you. Are you popular?"

You paused, considering how to respond. Revealing too much about your personal life was a risk you couldn't afford to take.

"I'm not sure," you replied cautiously. "I'm not the most outgoing person, but I think I get along well with others."

"Phew! For a moment there, I was worried you might be some creepy loner with nothing better to do," Jungkook teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"No, I have a life to live too, you know," you retorted playfully. "Studying isn't always easy."

"Studying?" Jungkook raised an eyebrow. "That means you're a student as well, right? Considering you're a year or two younger than me, I bet you attend Seoul University."

You felt a jolt of panic at his deduction. Revealing your educational background could potentially expose your identity.

"Hey, it's my turn to ask a question," you reminded him, redirecting the conversation.

"Oops, my bad," Jungkook apologised sheepishly. "Go ahead, ask away."

"Do you have any hobbies besides killing and writing?" You inquired, trying to steer the conversation away from personal details.

"I love how casually you mention killing, fucking psycho." Jungkook chuckled, his smirk returning. "Well, besides those, I enjoy singing and composing music. But I'm sure you already knew that, given your keen observations."

You couldn't help but agree silently. Jungkook's talents were well-known, and you had admired his voice and skills from afar. He possessed a captivating voice that resonated deeply with your soul, whether he sang in the shower or while doing everyday tasks. It was a soothing melody, a promise of joy and happiness. You wished he could keep singing forever.

The conversation continued, each question revealing a little more about each other's interests, without straying into dangerous territory. As the minutes ticked by, the initial nervousness melted away, replaced by a comfortable familiarity.

"These questions are getting boring," Jungkook muttered, running a hand through his tousled brown locks. "Let's make things more exciting. Are you a virgin?"

"Yes," you replied with unwavering conviction. "I've made a personal vow to remain chaste until marriage."

"What?" Jungkook's astonishment was palpable. The revelation caught him completely off guard. "You're planning to uphold your purity until marriage? But why?"

"Because it aligns with my faith and what I believe God would desire," you explained calmly.

"God?" Jungkook's laughter spilled forth, laced with skepticism. Surely, this had to be some elaborate jest. "After everything you've done, you still hold onto your belief in God? It seems somewhat contradictory, doesn't it?"

"I haven't done anything immoral," you retorted, your brow furrowing in earnest. "I have never taken a life."

"But you're a deranged stalker, and you've concealed my lifeless remains," Jungkook countered.

"So what?" You shot back defiantly.

"You truly are a unique enigma, mystery girl," Jungkook remarked, his tone tinged with amusement. "Why do you place such unwavering faith in God?"

It was a profound question—one that demanded introspection.

"Because God made you."
