The large doors opened and the smell just, well, it completely enveloped me, to say the least.

I'm not trying to be cliche or anything, but that's the only way I can think to describe it.

"Brother, what a surprise, you actually decided to visit for once," a deep voice said in acknowledgment. "And you brought someone with you as well? How intriguing."

Jack is in front of me so I can't see who the person is, but I'm guessing that it is the Alpha because the person called Jack his brother, unless Jack has more than one sibling. At this point, I'm not sure. Either way, he sounds tired.

I think Jack is hiding me behind him on purpose. But why?

Jack's brother is the smell... I don't know how I can tell, but I can.

My wolf can tell.

"I tried calling you to notify you that I was coming over. You didn't answer, so I just figured that you were in a meeting for something and couldn't check your phone," Jack replied, shrugging.

"Both of you, come in and sit down," the man who smells of burning marshmallows ordered.

Jack and I did as the man told us and went inside the room.

"Mine," he growled under his breath as I walked by him.

He grabbed my arm and harshly pulled me to him. My back smacked against his chest before he wrapped his arms around my stomach.

I let out a quiet yelp due to shock.

"And you are, darling?" he asked softly in his rough, husky voice against my neck.

He sounds like he hasn't slept properly in a while, poor thing.

"I'm... I'm Elena," I whispered, the shocks of the contact surprising me even more. "My name is Elena."

He's my mate... seriously?

I run away from being forced to mate one of the strongest Alphas only to be mated to the strongest.

This would be pretty typical for the protagonist of a book.

Not long after I realized that the person who smelled like burning marshmallows, Jack's Alpha brother, was my mate, he had to go take care of something. He has to break up a dispute or something. He told Jack and me to stay in his office and we would talk or whatever when he got back.

He seemed reluctant to leave his office. His wolf didn't want to leave mine I guess.

"I told you that you were going to find your mate soon, Torch," Jack chuckled lightly. "And I just knew that it would be my brother."

He undoubtedly lied about being afraid of his brother. I should have seen that coming. He never expressed any fear while dragging me here. I'm such an idiot for believing that he would be afraid of his flesh and blood. Especially with how he's always talking so fondly of them.

Ugh.

"Yeah," I mumbled, looking at my hands which are on my lap. "I guess you did..."

Wait, he knew that his brother was going to be my mate? I guess it does kind of make sense seeing as he's related to him and all...

It's still weird.

"Are you mad at me?" Jack whispered. "For not telling you why I wanted you to come, and for lying to you to get you to come here?"

Am I mad at him? I've never been mad at him before. Is this me being mad at him?

"No," I sighed. "I feel like I should be, but I just can't bring myself to. I probably wouldn't have come out of fear if you told me the truth as to why you wanted me to come."
