Phoenix (Part 2 of the 2 Part Malevolent Series)

Chapter 20

Rain pounds the glass outside, I watch as the rain seems to be swept by the wind. The weather is too hazardous for us to be in, at least according to Chloe.

"Plus, we could use a day off. This is a lot of fighting." She says

Somehow someone found a way to make a fire, so we circle around the glowing fire.

"So what happened up here while we were down there?" Chloe asks

"Well, you guys were only down there for what, a day? Maybe two?" Hudson asks

"About a day yeah." She says

"Well we just kept pushing. The government keeps receding. Everyone is now in the first ring of apartments. The peacekeepers laid a lot of traps down, that's how we lost five or so." Hudson says

"Interesting." Chloe says

"Anything crazy happen underground?" He asks

"Not really, just a lot of fighting down there too." Chloe says

"I hate to interrupt." Xavier says, he scoots forward, "But if these peacekeepers are guarding the inner ring, and it's raining, don't you think this is a perfect time to pounce?" He asks

"The only problem is that we aren't equipped with long-range weapons. We can't see them, they can't see us." Hudson says

All the sudden the door handle flicks back and forth, someone is trying to get in.

"Open up!" Someone demands

I instinctively grab my gun, and position myself to shoot.

"Who is it?" Hudson whispers

I crawl to the door, "Tell us who you are."

They don't respond for a moment, "Rebellion backup."

As soon as I hear it, I open the door. In comes at least twenty or thirty new soldiers. They looked totally soaked.

"How did you guys find us?" Chloe asks

"The map is equipped with a GPS. We used that, we were flown in to your position." One says

He notions for one of the men to come forward, he comes forward with a giant bag.

"Resupply." He says, he tosses out boxes of ammunition and bags of food. Everyone grabs their allotment.

"Five of us are staying." He says

Another guy drops four or five snipers, "We think now would be a perfect time to pounce on the peacekeepers. Us five are equipped with snipers already. We need five others."

Noah grabs one, I follow him and grab one. I watch as Hudson and Wyatt do the same. He also hands everyone a new earpiece.

"New radios. Programmed with a new station, one that the government cannot intercept." He says

"Well what about all of the gear?" I ask

"Everyone's gear in here is waterproof, you guys just haven't seen a rainstorm yet." He says

"So what's the plan for the rest of us?" Chloe asks

"Wait here until we clear all the guards out. Following that, we will rejoin you and we will make the final push for the capitol. This will definitely be the most dangerous leg of the battle. Be safe, play it safe, and good luck." He says

It stays dead silent for a second, "Gentlemen." He notions for us to follow him outside. I put my backpack on, and grab my sniper and rifle. I feel twice as heavy will all of this stuff.
