Paperwork.

Paperwork.

More paperwork.

All Abram seems to do is paperwork.

Abram sips on the steadily cooling coffee in his mug. This is his fifth cup already and yet he can't seem to wake himself up. He would go do something else but he is afraid to run into one of the Elders or the candidates. How depressing is it that Abram is afraid to leave his office?

"Fuck it," Abram growls out loud to himself.

He gulps down the remaining black liquid in his cup before he stands up and moves to his door. As soon as he opens the door he regrets it though. There stands Winter Huxley, the youngest girl in the group. She is barely fifteen and yet the Elders find it appropriate for him or Jonah to mate with her.

Her hair is a dark shade of black that flows to the middle of her back in natural loose ringlets, her skin pale, and a set of electric blue eyes that seem to capture Abram as he freezes in the doorway. Winter is actually dressed in a yellow summer dress that goes to her ankles and a pair of white ballet slippers. The dress has thick straps but they still don't cover her whole shoulders, but so far, she is the most dressed than the other girls.

"Hello," She whispers with her eyes cast to the floor as she moves a lock of hair behind her ear. Abram already found out that she is shy, although he can't decide if it's all an act to get him or Jonah to choose her or not.

"Hello," Abram replies without emotion.

Winter chews her bottom lip nervously as she glances up at Abram through her dark hair. "Would you like to take a walk with me? Elder Stirling told me I was not allowed to stay in my bedroom until I took a walk with both you and Beta Jonah,"

Abram tilts his head to the side. "What were you doing before he told you that?"

"I was reading, Sir," She whispers. Her voice is soft and sweet and Abram believes this girl to be just like her voice, sweet. How could anyone be such a good actor? Not even Abram's wolf is getting a bad vibe from this fifteen-year-old she-wolf.

"You read?" He asks with wide eyes. Why is that so shocking to Abram. Maybe because he wasn't expecting any of the candidates to do anything normal and mundane such as reading.

"Yes, Sir, although my parents and the Elders do not approve of it. I will stop if you ask me to," She says with her head bowed in submission.

Abram's eyebrows furrow. "No, I would never ask you to stop reading if you enjoy it," Then he runs a hand through his hair. "I was just going to go for a run, but I suppose we can go for a walk instead so you can get back to your reading,"

"Thank you, Sir," She whispers with her head still bowed.

"Call me Abram, please, I hate formalities," Abram replies as he steps out of the room and shuts the door behind him.

"Of course," She whispers as she steps back to give Abram his space.

Abram bites his tongue from smiling. He doesn't want to lead this girl on or give the others the impression that he is considering Winter as a mate.

Abram shoves his hands into his pockets as he walks down the hallway with a blank face. He spots Elder Farah and Elder Alikae leaving the kitchen but they stop once they notice Winter trailing behind Abram. Abram can only imagine what they are thinking. They probably think he is a pervert for choosing to take his first walk with the youngest of the group.
