Its sound so sweet

“Louis, what is it?” You said into your phone after you had left the room that your friends were talking in.

“I… I just miss you.” He said. You closed your eyes. You didn’t want to be in love with him anymore. The two of you hadn’t ended on the best of terms. There was a fight about time. That’s what they were all about. He was mad that you couldn’t cater your life around his and you were mad that he expected you to. It bothered you that he didn’t see how hard you tried to be there for him. In the end, you both decided you needed someone who could appreciate each other’s schedules. You hated yourself everyday for letting him go and not trying hard enough. Since you broke up 6 months ago, you hadn’t seen or talked to him, save for one awkward run in at the supermarket a month after you split up.

Lately, you had really been missing him. Your friends told you that you made the right call. You missed the way Louis would calm you down but, you missed how he could get you out of your head. He was so driven and his passionate about life. It was something you knew you needed.

“Are you okay?” You asked, suddenly thinking something must’ve prompted the call.

“I’m fine.” He said. You knew him well enough to know that he would be rolling his eyes because you steered the conversation away from how he thought it should go. “I just needed to talk to you. My life had been so crazy lately and you always had a way of slowing it down."

You smiled to yourself and slid down the wall. "We balanced each other pretty well.” You agreed. You knew you shouldn’t be indulging in this because it wasn’t going to help you get over him, but you couldn’t stop yourself. “I miss you too, Lou.” You admitted, closing your eyes and trying to picture him.

“Can we try again?” He said after a while. You took a deep breath. “I know I’m so out of line and that you wanted to be alone but I honestly don’t think I could live with myself if I didn’t at least try to get you back.”

You tried to rationalize in your head why you should just tell him no and end the call. Your head was reminding you over and over again how much it hurt to be away from Louis while your heart was flooding you with memories of how amazing it was to be together. “Louis, I want to say yes to you. You have no idea how much I want to say yes.”

“Then say yes. I’m not asking you to drop everything for me.” He said simply. “I’m just asking if I have a chance. Would I still be someone you wanted in your life?”

“It’s always going to be you, isn’t it?” You sighed. You knew in your head that no one else was going to come close to him.

“I realized that today. That’s why no other relationship has felt right since you.” He explained. “Nothing had felt right.”

“You still have a chance.” You whispered into the phone. “Nothing feels right without you for me, too.” You agreed.

“I’m not going to fuck it up this time. I promise. We will figure it out. We will make this work.” You could practically hear the smile in his voice. You couldn’t help but smile back, knowing that somehow it would work out.
