it was three days since you found tyler in the park so far from home, and it was three days in a row that he didn't come to your tree.
you sat in the cold november silence, writing in your notebook when you heard footsteps on the grass, and you looked up hopefully, but startled to see someone who was definitely not tyler.
this boy had flaming red hair, reminding you of the red pinwheels sold on the fourth of july, and when he grinned at you he had a midsummer day smile.
"salutations," he said, his voice a lovely g major. "i'm josh."
"hello," you said hesitantly, slowly closing your notebook. you stared at him, and after a second or two, he sat down next to you. "i'm tyler's friend. he's been sick for the past few days, and he was worried that you'd be afraid, so he sent me to stand in for him." josh said, and you sighed in relief. light green.
"tyler talks about you all the time. the girl who can feel everything. you're unbelievably precious to him, it hurts him to see you in pain." josh said, and you looked up at him in surprise. day-glo orange. "what?" you gasped. "really?"
josh smiled, the g major ringing. "yep. tyler is gonna kill me, but he likes you a lot. he wrote two songs for you, he said you liked them." he said, and you nodded. "they were amazing. his voice is gold, and as big as the sky." you said, and josh raised an eyebrow.
"you should come watch our band sometime." josh said, and you grinned. "tyler told me about that. i didn't know you were in it." you said, and josh nodded proudly, his face going lilac-pink-sage green. "i'm the drummer." he said, and you laughed. "where does tyler live? i'd like to go see him with you."
josh stood up, brushing off his black skinny jeans, and offered you a hand. you took it (his hands were a nice shade of chartreuse), and as he pulled you up almost effortlessly, his arms were red-orange.
you walked together, josh's footsteps making even russet colored sounds on the sidewalk. eventually you came to a house that was painted light blue, the same color as tyler. josh led you up the front steps, opening the door and entering.
you followed behind him, walking up the stairs, coming to a door that was partially open. you hesitantly pushed it open, and saw a room with red walls. tyler lay in bed, covered by black blankets, his blue green face pale as paper.
"ty?" you asked quietly, and his brown eyes opened, focusing on you. he smiled, sitting up as you and josh sat down on his bed. "i'm sorry for not coming or texting you, i--" tyler started, and you cut him off. "it's alright, tyler. i understand. besides, josh is a nice friend. you sent a good one." you smiled, which made tyler laugh. yellow summer sun windchimes.
josh laughed too, his laugh orange yellow red and kitten fur. "drink water, eat some stuff, take your meds, get sleep." josh told tyler, and tyler avoided your gaze as he nodded. "okay. i promise i'll be there tomorrow." he told you, and without thinking you leaned forward and placed a kiss on his cheek. he gasped minutely when your lips touched his skin, and then he smiled when you pulled back.
"thank you for coming to see me." he said, when you and josh were almost out the door. you smiled and turned to go, but he said your name.
"yes?" you asked, and he sighed, folding his hands. "stay alive for me, okay?" he asked, and you sighed, smiling again."of course, tyler. always."
