"Love I need you to wake up" Bastien shook me gently.
"Go away" I groaned rolling over wrapping myself in the comforter.
"Britney darling please I know you're tired, but I need you to let me know that you're alright," Bastien said his voice wavering.
I blinked in confusion. I tried to sit up, but a piercing pain in my shoulder kept me pinned to the bed. I screamed in confusion. What was going on? The last thing I had remembered was falling asleep in Bastien's bed. I looked over to see a silver dagger piercing my shoulder inches from my heart. Tears streaming out of my eyes I flailed around trying to get the knife out of my shoulder.
"You need to hold her still while we take this out," someone said as Bastien held me down.
"It's ok. You're going to be ok" he said his voice wavering. I could feel his fear mix with mine through the bond. I thought I heard someone counting, but I was in too much pain to focus on anything. It was a blur of lights and sound and pain. Then I felt the dagger being pulled out of my should and I howled in pain before passing out.
I wasn't sure how much later I woke up, but I had stitches in my shoulder and the pain was gone. I was curled up in Bastien's arms and he was asleep under me. My heart rate sped up as I remembered what happened. I felt Bastien stir under me "Brittney are you awake?".
"What happened" I whimpered looking at my shoulder.
"While you were recovering from your vision someone attacked you. I came in before they could finish the job, but even so with your depleted energy from your vision I thought I'd lost you" he said. "I think it's probably a good idea if you don't try to work with spirit for a while. You were out for several days and it makes you vulnerable to attacks from our enemies".
"Enemies, what enemies?" I asked. I was sure there were people who would want to harm Bastien, me among them, but it seemed really unfair that they would try to hurt him by hurting me. "Do you know who it was?" I asked.
"Look I don't want you to be alarmed, but your brother was seen in pack territory," he said gently.
"So. He was probably looking for his kidnapped sister" I smiled pleased that he had come for me. I knew that Bran would never leave me behind.
"Britney he was spotted fleeing after you were attacked," Bastien said gently.
"You're a liar" I shouted at him scrambling out of bed ignoring the pain.
"Brittney sit down. You're still injured" Bastien said clearly trying hard to maintain calm.
"No. I'm tired of you lying to me. You lied about being my mate. You lied about Grayson. You lied about caring about me and now you're lying about this" I said storming out before he could answer. My vision was blurry from the multitude of painkillers pumping through my system, but I needed to get somewhere that wasn't Bastien's.
Bastien must have realized how upset I was because he didn't follow me as I left the main house. Jax was probably trailing behind me so I wouldn't bolt again, but at least I could get out of the house and away from Bastien.
I remembered the dream I'd had where Brandon had tried to kill me and I paled. Maybe it wasn't as far of a reach as I thought it was. In my dream, he had said that I had betrayed him, but I hadn't. If he'd snuck into the main house expecting to find me chained in a basement only to find me sleeping in Bastien's bed with this stupid mark on my neck then maybe that was the betrayal. I still found it hard to believe that he would try to hurt me.
I wandered into the trees at the edge of the property when I heard someone behind me. I stopped. Jax hadn't been trailing that close behind me. I turned around slowly to see Bandon looking furious.
