"Okay class, when the bell rings open your history books to page 5. And Jeremy put your iPod up." Mr. Dawson says.

Everyone looks over at Jeremy and laughs a little. Jeremy is always the type to get in trouble. I sit in my seat waiting for the tardy bell to ring. I look over at my friend, Lauren, who starts talking to me about what she did over the summer. The tardy bell rings, and I look at the door when a new girl runs in. Everyone's attention turns to her especially mine. I stare at her in her skinny jeans and a white t-shirt that has blue writing on it. Her dirty blonde hair is like an emo-scene styled.

"I'm sorry I'm like one second late." She says out of breath.

Mr. Dawson stares at her. "It's alright, um-" He pauses and looks around the room. He points to the back towards me. "There's a seat in the far back beside of Kadence there." My eyes widen a little. The new girl looks at me, and I stare in her piercing green eyes. She walks towards the back and sits down in the seat next to me.

"Where the hell did she come from?" Lauren leans over and whispers to me.

I look at her. "Don't be mean." I smack her arm gently. She holds her arm rubbing it. I laugh a little.

"What's your name?" Mr. Dawson calls from his desk.

I look at the new girl as she stares at him. "It's Aiden Deters."

Aiden... I think of her name for a moment. That's a unique name for a girl. I know some girls have been named that, but it's very rare. I like it.

She looks at me, and I immediately look away. I was staring wasn't I? I feel my face turning red. I just embarrassed myself.

"Kadence."

I hear my name and I look up at the teacher. "Yes, sir?"

"Since Aiden doesn't have a history book yet, would you mind scooting over to her desk and sharing your book with her?"

"I don't mind." I say nicely. I look over at Aiden and smile a little. I pick up my book-bag and purse and I set it on the other side of my desk. I scoot my desk close enough to where I can set my book on mine and her desk. I open my book to page 5, and I look at Aiden.

"Where did you move from?" I ask her.

She looks at me. I stare in her eyes. I can't help but to stare in her green eyes. They're literally hypnotizing me.

"I moved from Jefferson high school. My grandparent's live here."

"Oh, your parent's moved from Jefferson County to be near your grandparent's?"

She stares at the book. "No." She says softly. I stay quiet. I don't think its right to continue asking her questions now. I feel like I upset her. She doesn't talk to me for the rest of the class.

"I really don't wanna go to volleyball practice today." Hannah complains.

We walk together carrying out duffle bags into the gym where our volleyball nets are set up.

"You'll be alright." I smile. I open the gym door allowing Hannah to go through. I walk in behind her and I set my duffle bag down near the bleachers. I grab my tape inside my duffle bag, and I wrap one strip around the palm of my hands on both of them. I set it back in my duffle bag. I start stretching before practice starts.
