Chapter 18

Poison Ivy and Thorns

Alice and I were neck and neck, our shoes slamming the floors of the empty hallway. At this rate it was impossible to tell who was going to win.

Lets pause.

You’re probably wondering why we’re racing in the first place. Well it was a spur of the moment thing with the three of us. We all had to race to the magnolia tree, and loser would have to buy the other two ice creams from the parlour after school.

We lost Kyle a while ago, when he zoomed past us near the science block. That guy was seriously fast and a hidden athlete. Now it was between Alice and I, and there was no way I was going to lose.

Suddenly a figure emerged from a class room and now was standing the middle of the hallway, holding a coffee cup and a stack of folders. It was a teacher, Mr Eddison. We were so busted.

Alice and I immediately halted to a stop a few centimetres away from  Mr Eddison. I took this time to catch my breath, and Alice did the same.

“What on earth are you girls doing?” He questioned curiously.

In between breaths, Alice answered, “Racing…to...tree…”

With a quizzical brow he questioned, “Why? Running inside is dangerous, you could crash into something.”

“Because, the loser has to treat the others to ice creams from the Frozen Freezer Parlour.” I explained, replenished with air.

“Now girls,” Mr Eddison started. I internally rolled my eyes as I could tell we were going to get lecture about school safety.

“I didn’t know ice cream was at stake, especially from Frozen Freezer. They have the creamiest of creams. I’ll pretend I was never here and didn’t see you two.” He chuckled.

Alice and I exchanged equally confused glances.

“Well, what are you waiting for? On your marks get set, GO!” Mr Eddison commanded.

Alice and I dashed past him and yelled, “Thanks Sir!”

That dude was possibly one of my coolest teachers here at Westrow.

The race was still on.

In my head I tried to remember the fastest way out of the school and my mind flashed to that secret exit. I had to lose Alice so took a right and skidded into another hallway where I passed two people who looked at me like I was a total weirdo. Oh well, there was free ice cream at stake.

I took another sharp turn and saw there were three people ahead of me. I tried to halt but my feet were too much on fire and before I could stop myself I fell into one of their backs then rebounded off them onto the floor like a. I lay, sprawled on the floor like an octupus, collecting my thoughts as to what just happened. Wow, this so wasn’t my finest moment.

“Sorry, I didn’t see you.” I said slowly propping my arms up into a sitting position.

“Didn’t see me? That’s impossible. It’s so hard to miss beauty like mine. Isn’t it girls?” said a high pitched squeaky voice.

What the feck? I looked to see who was talking and saw three girls standing before me. The three of them had all different features but they shared similarities. One of the girls had strawberry blonde hair, the other had honey blonde. The one who spoke was standing a bit closer to me and seemed more different than the other two.

She wore black stilettos and had possibly the shortest skirt on showing her long tan legs. Her shirt was tucked into her skirt with her cardigan neatly around her giving a smooth and pristine uniform.
