I walked into school, twirling my car keys on my finger. As I sit in front of the auditorium, (me and Jeremy's usual meet-up place) I see none other than Christine with my best friend, Jeremy. They were holding hands and being all romantic and gross. I hate it.
I put on a brave face and smile, "H-Hey, Jeremy!"
He waves to me with his free hand, "Hey, Michael! How are you?"
Terrible seeing you with her. "Amazing, per usual! You?"
He looks at Christine and smiles brightly. "Pretty great." She squeezes his hand, and it stabs my heart ten times over.
"Same here! Michael, you doing anything this afternoon?" Christine asked me. She gave me her... perfect smile and the perfect tilt of her head. Ugh, she's so... perfect it's disgusting.
"Nah. Nothing to do today. Why do you ask?"
"Oh! Well since you're free, maybe you could come to this year's play auditions?"
"Um, a bunch of homosexuals trying to be cool under burning hot lighting and heavy-ass costumes? A-no-thank-you."
Jeremy laughed hard. Really hard. I chuckled as well, blushing a little. "Come on, Michael." He started, "It'll be fuuuuun!"
Usually, I wouldn't do something like this. Drama? I'd never thought I would do it, but Jeremy's reassurance really helped me. "Well, okay. Since you're dragging me to it. What're the auditions for?"
Christine instantly gets excited. "Rent!!" She squeals.
I've heard of Rent. The main thing that struck a chord with me was that there was a gay couple. If I audition, maybe Jeremy and I could-
NONONO that's stupid... but it's a chance.
The school bell rings. I get up and put my backpack on. "Well, see you losers then!" I walk away, putting on some of Marley.
Even though Marley mellowed me out, I was nonstop excited all day. I never thought I would be happy to go to a drama audition.
I was never more excited to go someplace.
