5: Is it too early to know I like you?

Peridot's POV

It was Wednesday afternoon and school ended earlier than usual. I wanted to hang out with Lapis. Because I feel great when she's around. I remembered that she told me she needed help with Biology.
"Hey L-lapis. Do you wanna come at my place?"
She blushed.
"...to study ! Obviously! Not to weird stuffs, uh ? Right? It's not like I like you or something and wanna do things with you because that would be super awkward, we barely met and you know I thought you might need help with your Biology homework and since you told me that you didn't really underst-"
"I'd love to." She interrupted me.
"well, that's hum.... great !"
I smiled.
And she smiled back.

Her smile is very, very cute.

The day went pretty fast. Lapis and I have every classes in common which is great. I'm glad. She's very nice.

At the end of the day, we were walking to my house in silence.
"You know, my room is very messy and my older brother is probably there yet and he's annoying, but sometimes nice... I guess. We live only together and he's as messy as I am so it's pretty messy ther-"
She put a finger on my lips which made me blush a lot.
"I'm sure it's great."
I turned the key in the door lock.
"Pumpkin! I'm home!"
"Your brother's name's "Pumpkin"?" Lapis asked.
I laughed. " No, that's my dog."
"Why is he called like that?"
"Because we found him on Halloween, in a pumpkin. He was so small he could fit in it."
She awed at my lil puppy running and jumping around my feet.
"You can go upstairs and put your stuffs in my room while I take some drinks."
When I closed the fridge's door, my brother, Shane, was there.
"Her again? What, is SHE your gay interest or something?"
"Ah! You scared me you clod !
And NO. She. Is. Not. Leave me alone."
"C'mon Dot, don't lie to me, I know you like girls."
"She's new and she's nice. Now stop, i'd like to go study with her."
"I bet you two will be together in less than a month."
"I like her, but we only met like, one week ago, give me some time."
"If you're scared that she wouldn't be into girls, don't worry, i've seen the way she looks at you."
"You spied on us?!"

Lapis' POV

I could hear Peri and her brother arguing about if I could like a girl or not. I'd like to reassure Peri and tell her I do. Cause I think I like her too, even if we met last week. And even tho I never came out to anyone cause my mom is an homophobic bitch and while she's alive, I'll never date a girl. But, when I'm with Peri, I feel different. And I love this feeling.

So, is it really too early to know if I like Peridot ?

Peridot's POV

Lapis and I were laying on my bed, studying Biology. I was trying to explain stuffs to her but her beautiful face when she was concentrated was disturbing me.
"When you mix Sodium with O2, the form that will come out can be super toxic but even more if you remplace sodium by a huge portion of Hydrogen and Dioxide of Carbon. Lapis ? Are you even listening to what I'm saying ?"
"What is H2O?" Lapis said while reading something on the Biology book.
"Seriously? It's water!"
"Ooooooh.... right."
"Ok, I understand... you're tired, let's take a break."
"Yay, a break!" She said.
"Oh! We could play Overwatch !" I proposed.
"Sure !! Why not?"
I took my laptop and she took hers that was in her bag.
"What's your username?" She asked me.
"Spacedorito."
She laughed.
"What?"
"It's.. it's s-so cute!"
"Uh... thanks?"

Lapis' POV

"DON'T TOUCH THAT! Aaaargh you clods don't know what you're doing!!"

"Why didn't you attack him, he was just in front of you, you clod!"

"CLODS CLODS CLODS, YALL ARE CLODS!"

She was arguing in front of her screen while I laughed at her.

"Lapis, you're not even trying!"
"I just can't-stop laughing at you ! You're adorable !"
Suddenly she stopped playing and her cheeks became red.
"It's getting late we should...go back to biology."

Peridot was explaining stuffs to me but I couldn't pay attention. The way she reacts when I talk to her... why does she blush every time I compliment her?
There must be something. She told her brother earlier, that she liked me but it was too soon...
I was staring at her while she was talking about unimportant stuffs.
She stopped talking and looked at me.
"Lapis, can you at least try to understand?"

Peridot's POV

She didn't answer me. What is wrong with her today ?

She took her phone and played a song.
"Listen to this song."
I sighed, closed my biology book and listened to the song.
"It's called 'La Da Dee' " she said.
At one moment in the song, she sang along.
"All the girls are looking fine but you're the only one on my mind."
She looked at me, took my hand and started dancing on the chorus.
"I... can't dance..." I admitted.
"C'mon, I'll show you..."
We danced, hands in hands. It was kinda fun. We were laughing.
At the end of the song, we both layed on the bed, still laughing.

"Lapis?"
"Mhm?"
"I think I like you."
"Wh-what??"
She got up the bed.

She blushed and was staring at me.

Lapis' POV

My heart stopped beating.
Did she just... told me she liked me?
What do I do? I think I like her too but... isn't it too early?

"I would understand if you don't feel the same."
She looked down.
"I just...I'm not sure I like you too." I suddenly say.
I'm sorry Peridot. I'm just not ready.

After a moment of silence, I said:
"I'm sor-"
"No! I'M sorry, we barely met, I shouldn't have said that, it was dumb, I'm just confused..."
"Well... I guess I should go home..."
"Ye ye of course... see ya tomorrow."

The next days, I couldn't stop thinking about Peridot and how I felt bad. When I told her I didn't like her, she seemed really broken. But i had to, even if I do like her, a lot. I'm just not ready to face the consequences. My mom, people at school, Jasper and everything...
