Cheated

Chapter Five- Part 2

AUSTIN DANIELS

I awoke groggily, slightly disoriented as I had become so use to sleeping alone. I was engulfed with my favorite smell in the entire world, when the person that was in my arms turned to snuggle even closer to my chest. Sophie.

As the events of last night came back to me, I was momentarily angry. How dare Sophie even attempt go on a date with another man? But then I remembered, that I had cheated on her, and that we weren't technically together anymore, and most importantly, she could do whatever she wanted.

The fact that she didn't actually get to go on the date didn't make it hurt any less, but I was glad that she hadn't. "Austin," Sophie whimpered, and my ears perked up.

After looking at her for a few moments, I confirmed that she was still sleeping. Which meant that she was dreaming about me. I couldn't help but feel slightly giddy at the thought.

"Austin," she said again, jerking her body slightly. "I love you."

My heart was literally beating out of my chest. She still loved me? "Please don't leave me!" she cried out, and I wondered what on earth she could be dreaming about.

"Please, please, please!" She was moving her arms around wildly while kicking her legs, and I decided it was time to wake her up.

"Sophie," I whispered in her ear, while tapping on her shoulder. When she still didn't wake up after five minutes, I did the only thing that I was certain would get her up.

Scooting down on the bed slightly, I reached my hand down, and began tickling her foot. She instantly bolted up, kicking me in the face in the process.

I rubbed the spot she had kicked, while she looked around frantically with a tear stained face. "Are you okay?" I asked, moving back up to the spot I had been sitting in before I started tickling her foot.

"Yes," she said quietly, while wiping the tears from her face.

"You were having a nightmare," I informed her, putting an arm around her shoulders.

"I know. It was about you." She shrugged my arm off, rising to her feet and getting out of bed.

"Where are you going?" I questioned, furrowing my eyebrows.

"Back to Maggie's. She's probably wondering where I've been," she told me, as she put her hair into a messy bun.

"So, what? You're not even going to talk to me?" I asked getting up from the bed to stand beside her.

"What's there to talk about?"

"You can't be serious!"

"Austin, I don't know what much I can say. I'm not going to be with someone who cheats on me. End. Of. Story." She was looking around for something as my mouth dropped open a little.

"I didn't- I mean I wouldn't cheat on you again," I insisted.

"That's what they all say. Did you think you were going cheat on me the first time?"

"You know I was drugged. It wasn't even my fault," I defended.

"You know what Austin? Maybe you should try taking some responsibility for your actions! All I've been hearing is, 'poor little me! I cheated on my mate, but oh no, it wasn't my fault because I was drugged'." She was using air quotes and making her voice deep.

I couldn't help but laugh a little, but regretted it when she glared furiously at me. "Be a man and own up to what you did. Maybe then I'll think about talking to you."

She spotted her jacket laying on the floor and picked it up and stomped out, leaving me feeling worthless and guilty. Every time we talked, something went wrong. I could literally feel the hole that I had dug when I cheated on Sophie, getting deeper and deeper. Pretty soon I wasn't going to be able to climb out of it.

It couldn't happen. I couldn't even imagine it. Sophie couldn't leave me, a life without her, sounded like hell.
