“Are you guys, like official?” Molly asked as we walked down the hall to our next class. Avery had class way on the other end of the school, otherwise he would be beside me right now. This was the first time he left my side since school started, he even offered to walk me to my class just now but Molly said she’d walk with me and I agreed and told him I’d see him at lunch.
I laughed, “I don’t know, I mean he hasn’t asked me yet, so I guess not.” I told her trying to leave the disappointment out of my voice by keeping it light.
“Mmm, maybe he’s waiting for...” she mumbled softly thinking.
“Whatever right.” I shrugged as we took our seats in Math.
“Yeah,” She agreed but her face lit up and she smirked.
The teacher walked in and called the attention of the class before I could ask her what she was thinking.
During the lesson I spaced out, I was dreaming of Avery...again. It was weird how my entire life basically revolves around him now. If I wasn’t with him I was either thinking about him or dreaming about him as I slept.
“Val?” Molly asked nudging me in the stomach. “Class is over.” She smirked. I looked around the room and sure enough we were the only ones left, even the teacher was gone. I blushed and grabbed my books as I stood up.
“Sorry uh, I was distracted.”
“I noticed.” she smiled brightly at me.
After dropping off our books at the lockers we made our way outside and went to our normal spot for lunch. Surprisingly for us, the last ones out of our class, we were the first ones to our table. I looked around for the one person I’ve been dying to see, even though I saw him just an hour ago.
“Are you going to drop hints that you want him to ask you?” Molly asked making me look at her.
“Huh?” I asked raising my eyebrow at her before I got distracted again with a new group of people that flooded through the doors.
“Are you going to flirt with him to tell him you’re interested?” She tried again.
“Uh no...I think he already knows, but he doesn’t feel the same so I don’t even know why I’m basically obsessing over him.” I let slip out before I slapped a hand over my mouth and blush a deep red in embarrassment.
Molly laughed, “Don’t worry, he likes you too, I can tell.” She shrugged as I stared at her wide eyed.
I shook my head, “Doubt it.” I muttered looking down at the table following the grain lines with my eyes finding patterns and shapes. What if he did like me? what if Molly was right? Who am I kidding, he would never like a girl like me. We were too different.
“Hey.” A warm voice tickled my ear and the worry simply floated away as a smile spread across my face.
“Ew,” Ryder yelled but smiled as he wrapped an arm around Molly pulling her close. Molly pushed him away lightly but she looked flushed and I smiled at them.
“Speak for yourself.” Avery told him but he was smiling as he wrapped a hand around my waist and pulled me closer to him so our arms were touching. Avery nodded at Ryder and smirked, “She like it.”
“Hey!” I shot playfully at him and looked down at me winking, sending butterflies in my stomach. I leaned into his side, he’s right I do like it.
Molly smiled at us I smiled back at her. Ryder began poking her in the side, “Does this bother you?” he asked playfully.
“No.” she told him the smile disappearing off her face as she looked at him.
“What about this?” He poked her face.
“Stop.”
“Or this?” He asked running his fingers lightly through her hair.
She pulled her head away slightly turning her head so he couldn’t look at her face as her lips twitched into a smile. Ryder looked worried and sad, but she put her poker face on and turned back to him hitting his arm playfully.
“You could have messed up my hair.” she told him, he looked shocked and Avery and I laughed at the pair of them.
Molly laughed lightly showing him it was a joke, slowly Ryder came around and smiled a little too.“Valarie Johnson, to the office.” A voice rang through the courtyard. I froze the smile slipping off my face and Avery held me tighter.
This can’t be good...
