We pulled up to a pretty nice house, in a decent neighborhood. Chaz
turned off the engine and gave me a reassuring smile before coming
around and opening the door for me. He helped Jessie get out of the
car, and was telling him about Erica’s son Evan. He continued telling
him about all the toys Evan had and how he had a Sega and a
Nintendo in his room that they could play together. Jessie just smiled
and continued to shake his head. Jessie knew not to talk to people
he didn’t know, but he also knows I would never put him in harm’s
way. He actually seemed quite taken to Chaz for some reason, it was
pretty adorable. Is your name really Chaz he asked politely. Well my
nickname is Chaz he responded, but my actual name is Chester he
said. All my friends call me Chaz though, so you can call me that as
well he said shooting Jessie a sweet smile. How did this happen I
thought, I go to the mall to buy clothes for school and meet a guy who
ends up being a savior. I laughed inside my own head. I guess I just
had a really good stroke of luck I thought. But I am so glad it
happened regardless of how. I don’t think I could have made it
through this day without him. Chester knocked on the door to David’s
house, and within seconds he answered the door. I brought a friend
Chaz said to David. I hope that alright with you guys. Of course David
said, you know I don’t give a shit man. HE opened the door up
inviting us in with a warm smile.
So who is this little man? Erica asked Chester.
This is Roxie he said and this little dude is Jessie her brother.
Well Jessie she said Evan is upstairs in his room if you want to
go play. He has so many toys, and he always wants someone to play
with she continued. Jessie smiled and headed towards the stairs.
If you want anything sweetheart just let me know, I have tons of
snacks and drinks. She called to him.
Thank you for being so hospitable to us I said to Erica.
You are very welcome sweetheart, she said. David always has
company but Evan and I rarely have visitors. It’s nice to have another
female around, and someone for Evan to play with is great! He gets so bored sometimes, with no one to play with. So how did you and
Chester meet? She asked
Well actually we just met today, I went to buy some shit for
school and he was working. He gave me his discount and this
bracelet, plus left a cute little not on my receipt with his number! I
said proudly
He must really like you, normally he doesn’t go out of his way to
impress a female. Actually he hasn’t really ever done that before, you
must be special! She stated
I don’t know how I’m just an average teenager with a fucked up
life. Not to mention I have a piece of shit mother, so I don’t know how
I could be special I continued
Well maybe that is why he was drawn to you then, she said.
That was odd I thought, why would she say something like that. Did
your mother do that to you? She asked pointing at my black eye.
Yeah actually she did, I said. We had a fight and she punched
me in my face. I got Jessie some clothes and left. I was going to go to
my best friend’s house but I can’t seem to get ahold of her. Chester
found me at the library and told me I should come over here with him
and hang out for a while. At first I didn’t want to impose on you guys,
but Chaz assured me it would be fun. He said he knew you guys
wouldn’t mind it.
Well he was very right she said with a smile. As a matter of fact
if your friend doesn’t get ahold of you, you could stay here with us for
a while. We have plenty of room. We have a guest bedroom that
Chester usually sleeps in when he gets into it with his mom and Evan
has a bunk bed so there would be room for Jessie as well. She smiled
softly.
I got a very loving, motherly vibe from Erica, I wasn’t sure how old she was, but she appeared to be in her mid-20’s if I had to guess. She
was very sweet and seemed very eager to help. Erica went to the
kitchen and came back with an ice pack. Here put it on your face she
said. It will help with that black eye. “Thanks” I replied. No problem
sweetheart do you want anything to drink? She spoke softly. Nothanks, I’m okay for now. “Erica” I said did you mean what you said
earlier about me and Jessie staying here? Of course hunny, I wouldn’t
have offered if I didn’t mean it, she stated. “Thank you” I said. Your
very welcome sweetheart, if you want anything just let me know. I am
going to check on the kids. With that she turned and headed up the
stairs to Evans room.
