Chapter 16

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

I stood there staring at my full body length mirror gawking at myself. I turned around to mom who was beaming at me.

“Honey you look amazing” she gasped clasping her hands over her mouth. I looked back at my reflection and stared at the girl. Her blonde silky hair was loosely curled and hung over to her shoulders sliding perfectly to her waist. Her bangs were swept to the side showing her beautiful green eyes. Her pink lips were glossed and looked plump. And she was wearing a beautiful strapless white gown that hugged her waist and flowed down her long body making her look that much curvier.

“Is that me?” I whispered still staring. Mom came up from behind and wrapped her arms around me.

“That’s you” she smiled kissing my cheek. I blushed and turned around giving her a hug squeezing the life out of her.

“Ok honey, can’t breathe” she laughed. I laughed and let go of her turning around to look at myself again.

“If you don’t hurry up you’re going to miss the dance” she laughed gently tugging on my wrist. All of a sudden I felt nervous and excited at the same time. How is Lucas going to react? I hope I am beautiful as I feel. I gave my mom one last kiss before heading to the door. I stopped with my hand on the doorknob and frowned. I turned around to see mom smiling smugly at me as she dangled the keys to her black SUV. I smiled brightly and ran over to grabbing the keys.

 “Thank you mom” I said hugging her again before running outside.

I took a deep breath and got out of the car. I fixed my dress and my hair before heading inside the school. Once I was in front of the double doors that led to the massive gym I took another deep breath before pushing the two doors open. The music was blasting and lights were flashing everywhere and people dancing having a good time. I smiled brightly as I made my way around the gym. This is it. This is my first official dance. I spotted David and Selena by the punch table arguing. I grinned and made my way over to them. Selena’s back was facing me but David could see me. He looked up then did a double take. His eyes widened and his mouth dropped. Selena still kept shouting at him about nothing. He grabbed her shoulders and turned her around. She gasped when she saw me.

“Taylor” she breathed. “You look beautiful, no stunning, no gorgeous… I don’t what to say” she rambled. Hugging me and looking me over. David gave me a kiss on the forehead and complimented my look as well.

“I knew you were always beautiful” he smiled at me. I couldn’t help but blush and hit him playfully on his arm.

“I spot Lucas” Selena said in a sing-song voice. I turned around and saw him talking to one of his buddies. He was in clear view but he couldn’t see me. I was in the corner in the back and he was up front.  

“I think it’s time to go get your man” David whispered before gently pushing me forward. I started feeling antsy as I made my way towards him. People saw me coming and stopped dancing to stare and whisper. ‘Who’s that girl’ ‘Is that Taylor?’ I couldn’t help but blush as I overheard some of them. Lucas was still talking with his friends and didn’t notice me. People moved out of the way making a clear path for me. I kept walking until he finally turned to the side and looked over my direction. 

He did a double take. His eyes widened and his mouth dropped. I blushed like mad and stopped a few feet short, my nerves kicked in into over drive and now I was frozen in the spot. He started walking over to me his face lit up with a genuine smile I couldn’thelp but blush. I finally found enough courage to start walking again to meet him halfway. Out of no where Megan came and pulled him to her. She smiled and touched his cheek whispering something in his ear. Something in my stomach churned making me feel sick. Of course Megan would pop out at the last minute and ruin everything. I was preparing to turn around when Lucas gave her and disgusted look and pushed her off him and then continued his way to me. My heart leaped and found enough courage to take those last few steps towards him. We were now face to face. I stopped short and looked down in my hands. I unfolded the paper that I had hidden and turned it around for him to see. The beating of my heart pounded into my ears as I held the paper that said ‘I love you’ on it and awaited his expression. I almost fainted when he smile and reached into his pocket pulling something out. He unfolded the piece of paper and turned it to face me. My heart pounded faster at the sight of the words that were in front of me. I looked up from the paper that he was holding and looked into his eyes. He took a step forward but I stood deadly still. He took another step until he was inches away from my body.

“I love you” he whispered saying those three words that were on paper the paper. I grinned like a mad woman and put my shaky hands around his neck. He put his hands to my waist pulling me closer to him. Just then ‘Always’ by Bon Jovi came on. We danced to it slowly. He rested his forehead on mine and breathed in deeply.

“I’ve always loved you I just didn’t know how you felt about me” he said gazing into my eyes. I blinked a couple times trying to register in my mind what he just said.

“Then why did you go out with Megan” I whispered my voice cracked in the middle.

“I guess the main reason why I dated Megan was because of the whole high school cliché where the football quarterback dates the head cheerleader. I knew she is a bitch but I looked passed all that and went out with her. And when I found out that she’s been cheating on me for a while now, I surprisingly wasn’t angry because I guess another reason why I went out  with her was to get over my feelings for you, but that failed miserably. And when we started talking again that had to have been the happiest I’ve had in a long time.” He smiled softly and brushed his fingers against my cheek. I closed my eyes and savoured the moment.

“Lucas” I said quietly.

“Yeah” he whispered his breath tickled my face.  I opened my eyes and looked at him. He smiled his crocked smile that makes my knees buckle every time. “You belong with me” I said softly before pulling him into a kiss. He wrapped his arms tighter around my waist and I pulled him closer to me. His soft lips were way more perfect than I fantasised. We pulled apart and Lucas eyes shone with excitement and happiness. I smiled and rested my head on his shoulder enjoying this amazing night.

I guess fairytales do come true, because I just got my happy ending.
