There is so much more to John's personality than just his sexual orientation. He wasn't "just gay". He was a soldier, a diplomat, an abolitionist, an artist, a dreamer, someone who wished for equality for everyone, from slavery to poverty. Being gay is just a small fraction of who he was and it isn't fair that people just remember him for his sexual orientation. Who he freaking had sex with didn't define his entire personality.
