I don't think there's an instance in history where John flirted with a female. Heck, his flirting game with girls was so weak even his father noticed. (Of course, Henry blames it on his studying. Even though we later find out John's more than able to to both).
You could say this part of the musical is John's dreams of straightness come true.
(Until you see how gay he and Hamilton are for each other during the entirety of the first act. Rip John's heterosexuality)
