A Freed Slave?

So there's an anecdote about one of Henry's slaves, his name was Frederic, who escaped one of Henry's plantations and claimed to have been freed by John during the war. Henry made it clear that John had no such authority and made sure Frederic was returned to him. We don't know John's part of this story because by this time, he was already dead.

Henry also straight up tried to emotionally manipulate Hamilton into returning Frederic to him. Looks like his emotional manipulation do go beyond his own children. He wrote to Hamilton:

"he [Frederic] never was about the person of our dear departed friend; Our dear friend was too tenacious of propriety to have manumitted a Slave not his own"

That's just shitty, specially considering how hard Hamilton took his death.

But I really wonder if John did have anything to do with Frederic's escape.
