I had been home for a few days and then it was time to go back to the hospital for my final checkup. Mum had her first day back at work today so Tom took me for my appointment. I felt bad because Tom hasn’t been home since I was taken to hospital but whenever I mentioned it, he said;

"You are my priority at the moment. I have to stay here."

And he never gave me a chance to argue my point.

As we drove towards the hospital, I was feeling confident that everything was going to be okay. Tom kept peering out the corner of his eye, checking on me no doubt. He has been doing that for the past week and a half but I was glad for someone to be keeping a close eye on me. It made me feel safe and protected.

We arrived at the hospital and were called in almost immediately. The doctors took a blood test and performed an ultrasound. While we waited for the blood test results, I was taken into the same ultrasound room as before completed the same procedure.

We saw the picture of Matilda flash upon the screen and listened to the sound of her heartbeat.

"Very healthy baby!" The doctor smiled.

Tom and I both sighed in relief. It was a great feeling; all we needed to do now was to wait for the blood test results to come back. The doctor advised me to not participate in any strenuous activities for the duration of the pregnancy so I could guarantee mine and Matilda’s safety and to know that I could cope and of course Tom agreed to look after me and not leave my side.

We sat in the waiting room until my name got called. Tom was looking at our new print outs of Matilda while we waited.

"She has a massive head." Tom amused.

"Haha, she really doesn’t. It just looks like it from that angle." I defended.

"Mati has the cutest hands and feet though," He added.

"Oh, that’s something we forgot to buy, mittens, socks, shoes and beanies," I complained.

"After this?" He raised his eyebrows, looking up from the photos.

I nodded and had a big smile on my face because I knew he would be more excited than me. He laughed, kissed me on the cheek, and then went back to looking at the photos.

Suddenly my name was called and the nurse gestured towards a room on the right. Tom’s hand entwined with mine and he put the pictures in his jacket pocket. We walked into the room and sat on the lounge across from her.

"I would like to inform you that the blood test results have come back all clear but there is still some excess swelling, so you need to take it easy." The doctor explained.

"So, no school?" I asked. Not that I am complaining that I don’t have to go.

"Not for at least another two weeks and take everything very carefully. Try sitting and lying down as much as possible and you shall make a speedy recovery." She grinned.

"Awesome. Thank you so much for looking after me. I hate to imagine what would have happened without all you guys." I said sincerely.

"No problem. It is great to see you and bubs make it out okay."

Tom got up and shook her hand and then she gave me a hug. She wished us luck and said if there were any further problems we were to come straight back. Tom definitely agreed to that.

On the way home we swung by Baby Co. We looked around for a while but eventually found, two pairs of shoes, three pairs of pink frilly socks (they HAD to be frilly), two of the cutest beanies I have ever seen and three pairs of really tiny mittens. They were adorable. Tom also found a couple of bibs he liked and added them to the pile.

One said, ‘My Dad is the Best!’ another had a picture of a pink giraffe and the last said ‘I’m daddy’s princess’. It was going to be so cute seeing Matilda in those.

This time the bill only came to $42.55. There isn’t really much we have to get now but we should set up her room.

"Tom, when we get home can we get Mati’s room set up?" I asked as we walked back to the car.

"I will set up her room," He corrected. "You’re not carrying or lifting anything. You can just tell me where to put things."

"Haha, fine!"

We headed home and Tom got stuck into Matilda’s room straight away. I felt useless just standing there doing nothing so Tom put a seat inside the door so I could sit and watch, then direct him on where I wanted all the stuff to go. The paint was well and truly dry by now so he removed all the plastic and paper that covered the carpet so no paint was spilt on it.

He built the cot and bassinet in no time. I told him to place the cot against the wall, where it says ‘Matilda Elise’. Then he moved the bassinet into my room and put it in the left hand corner where I had previously made room. Tom put the bags of clothes in the spot where we wanted the draws to go and the same with the toys.

"All we have to buy now is high chair, change table, chest of draws, a toy box and blankets," I said writing them down on a piece of paper.

Tom walked over and took my hand. We both stood in the doorway examining the room.

"And more clothes," He whispered and then laughed.

I punched him in the stomach trying to hurt him but managed to hurt my knuckles from is rock hard abs.

"You hurt my hand you bitch!" I winged rubbing my knuckles.

He took my hand and kissed it.

"All better," He winked.

I screwed my face up at me but he smothered it in a romantic pash.

We stood face to face, my arms around his neck and his around my waist with my stomach bulging out in between us.

"I love you!" I said giving him a quick peak on the nose.

"I love you too," He laughed picking me up (bridal style) and taking me to my bedroom.

He put me down on my bed and tucked the blankets around me, then climbed in the other side. I wasn’t facing him so he wrapped his arms around me and left his hand touching the top of my stomach. We sat there for a while until Tom jumped up, scaring the shit out of me.

"Tom, what is it?" I yelled, frightened.

"Matilda, she kicked and I felt it. Didn’t you feel it?" He had the biggest smile on his face but he looked freaked out at the same time.

My hands flow down to touch my stomach, just in time to feel the next kick. Tears welled up in the eyes and Tom put his hands next to mine. Then she kicked again. While the tears streamed down my face, Tom kissed my cheek and said;

"I am so proud of you!"
