(Y/n's pov)
I ride to Mike's house quickly, trying to push the thoughts of Rodrick from my head. I jump off my bike when I find the house. It was small, but nice and had miles of land behind it. I lay my bike down on the grass carefully before walking onto the porch, knocking on the front door lightly. I hear shuffling in the house before the door opens and I'm greeted my a woman. I smelt freshly made biscuits and I had to stop myself from drooling.
I smiled softly at her. "I'm here to see Mike," I say nicely, like the girl my parents want me to be. The woman smiles back before pointing at a barn house. "He's in there, sweetheart," she replies. I look at the barn house before looking back at her. "I'm glad that Mike is making friends," the woman sighs softly.
"I'm (Y/n) (L/n)," I introduce myself, sticking out my hand for her to shake. "I'm Mike's grandmother," she replies, taking my hand in hers before shaking it softly. "Nice to meet you," I say with the soft smile still on my face. "You too," she replies before letting go of my hand. "Have fun ," The woman says and winks at me. I chuckle before turning around, making my way towards the brown barn house. What a nice lady.
I slowly open the barn door to be hit in the face by the smell of manure and hay. I ignore the horrible sent and look around, slowly entering the building. There was several pins that had sheep stuffed into them. I feel bad for the animals. All they do all day is watch the other sheep die and wait for their turn. It's dark and sad really.
"Mike?" I call out, looking around the barn and starting to walk past the pins. "Over here!" I hear the boy yell from the end of the barn. I can't but feel giddy inside, because of the baby pigs and of course seeing Mike. I didn't just come for the pigs.
I walk a bit quicker to the end of the barn and turn the corner. I see a medium sized pin with two bigger pigs and eight piglets. Mike is holding one in his arms, smiling at me.
I refrian from squealing, but I smile wide at the pigs and then at Mike. "I'm glad you came," he says softly and takes a step towards me. "I would never pass this up," I say happily and look down at the baby pig.
"Do you want to hold them?" Mike asks, offering the pig to me. I nod softly before taking the pig in my arms. I look down at it, smiling softly before looking at Mike and I see that he's staring at me. He averts his eyes.
"What are you going to do with them?" I ask, staring at Mike which looks back up at me. "Well, when they grow up we're going to have to kill them," he says softly. My heart almost breaks in two. "That's horrible," I say, frowning.
"Yeah, I don't like doing this, but my grandpa forces me to. At least I have somewhere to live," Mike says softly and I give him a sympathetic look.
"It sounds like torture doing all of this," I admit and scratch the pig's back softly before continuing, "What do you do when you're not working on the farm, for fun?"
Mike leans against a post and smirks at me. "I ride my bike a lot, explore," he pauses, thinking. "And looking at sunsets," he says with a small smile which makes me chuckle a bit. "That sounds romantic, Mike," I say while grinning.
"I'm alone when I do so not really," Mike says while rubbing his neck, grinning also. "Maybe we could do it together," I say, not noticing that I just said I'd do something romantic with him.
I don't notice Mike's sudden nervousness as he smiles at me, nodding. He has a nice smile. "Well what do you like doing?" he asks which makes me think for a moment. "Hanging with friends..." I pause, "And adventure," I say softly, smiling at him.
