(Y/n's pov)
"Wait up!" I yell to Belch and Vic who are racing to the car. I agreed to hang out with them and I'm kinda regretting it now. They saw some kid with headgear and I think something bad is going to happen.
I jump into the backseat of Belch's car before he rides off. Vic points to the girl with the metal on her face. "There!" he yells, making Belch pull up beside her.
"Guys," I say aggravated. "We're just going to have a little bit of fun," Belch replies, parking the car and getting out with Vic. The girl looks at them nervously and walks faster.
"Wait up!" Vic yells before jogging to her, stopping in front of her, blocking the way. She goes to turn around, but Belch is behind her. I stay in the backseat of the car, slumping.
"You got a lot of shit going on her," Vic says and taps her headgear. The girl flinches, making him up his hands up.
Belch grins down at her before burping in her face, making her cringe. I roll my eyes and hop out of the car. I quickly walk up to them and grab Belch's shoulder, pulling him back.
"Wow, I really thought you guys changed," I say annoyed, looking at both of them. "We're just talking to her!" Vic says defensively.
I grab their arms and push them towards the car. "Just leave her alone," I grumble.
"Thank you," the girl says quietly and I give her a reassuring smile. "Don't let them bother you. I'll deal with them. Have a nice day."
"You too," The girl says with a smile before quickly walking off.
I then turn towards the boys, my smile fading. "Are you fucking kidding me?!" I yell, getting looks from a couple of strangers.
"God, (Y/n), chill out," Belch retorts and leans against his car, crossing his arms.
I scoff at them. They can't be serious. "You told me that you've changed!" I yell before shaking my head.
"Don't bother picking me up tomorrow," I say and start to walk away.
"Come on, (Y/n)!" Vic yells after me. "We have changed," Belch says, but I ignore them and keep on walking swiftly to my house.
Fucking idiots. They are still going to bully kids after what happened? They promised me that they wouldn't bother another kid every again and here I am. I really thought....I shake my head and huff, trying to clear my head.
I get to my house and enter through the front door. "Mom?" I call, looking around. No response. "Dad?" Still no response.
I sigh happily before something pops in my head. The hat. Maybe I can get it back now that I'm home alone?
I make my way towards my father's office. I don't usually go into this room that much. Mostly because I'm not allowed inside.
I enter slowly and look around. It was decorated with different trophies and knickknacks. I search through the drawers, finding only files and office supplies.
I reach on top of a file cabinet and feel cloth. I grab it and examine it. The hat. I smile slyly to myself. I'm a fucking detective now.
I look up at jump at what I see. My mother is standing in the doorway of the office, staring at me with a confused gaze.
"Please don't tell dad," I say quickly which makes her smile a bit.
"What is that?" My mom asks, referring to the dirty hat.
"Oh, um..." I look down at the hat before slowly handing it over to her. She examines it for a moment before sighing deeply.
"Is this why you're in here?" Mom asks, looking up me. I nod in response. "I was with my friends one day and I found it. Dad caught me with it and kept it."
She nods before setting the hat down on the desk in the middle of the room.
"When your father was around your age his best friend, Jason Keller, disappeared one day. It was horrible." She looks over at the hat with a knowing look.
"Should I put it back then?" I ask and she nods, not looking at me. I grab the hat gently and place it above the file cabinet.
"But shouldn't we turn it in. It's evidence, right?" I ask as we slowly exit the office, my mom closing the door behind us.
She shakes her head. "I don't really think it would do anything. Your father can do as he pleases with it," she responses and makes her way towards the kitchen.
I stand there in the hallway for a moment, staring at the office door.
I has to be Pennywise, right? It's in the right timeframe. I can't think of anything else that it could be. Maybe my father went through the same thing as me this summer.
