Ding dong
I looked up from my bowl of cornflakes. Wait? Is Nate already here? I stood up to open the door and saw it was indeed Nathan.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
"Just finishing my breakfast" I said and let him in.
"It'll only take a few minutes"
"You actually eat breakfast?" Nate asked and laughed a bit."Breakfast is so overrated"
I just rolled my eyes and started eating again. Nate sat down in front of me and watched me eat, no pressure or anything... In the mean time, Max was still overenthousiastic about the new person that just came in. He sniffled Nate from head to toe, or so to speak. Not that he really minded. Mom walked into the kitchen and looked a bit confused at Nathan. She was getting ready for work, my dad already left. I didn't tell them about him or Emily, I thought it wasn't necessary.
"And what do we have here?" mom asked.
"Oh, uhm, this is Nathan" I said.
"Nate, my mom"
"Nice to meet you Mrs Anderson" Nate smiled.
"He's here to pick me up for school" I explained.
"Oh, great" she said and smiled at me.
"I'm glad you're making friends Jace. Nice to meet you to Nathan"She left the kitchen with her purse, which she left next to the fridge, and I heard the front door open and close.
"So, almost done?" Nate asked while staring at me. His head was laying on his arms which laid on the table.
"Yeah, patience" I laughed while eating on....
I saw Emily walking on the other side of the street on our way to school and smiled.
"Hey Emily!" I yelled and Nathan flinched. She turned around and smiled as I pulled Nate with me across the road.
"Jace" she laughed but that smile faded a bit when she saw Nate.
"Walk to school together?" I asked.
"Sure" she said.Nathan hadn't said a thing. I wondered why. Emily wasn't talketive either so I did most of the conversation untill we reached school.
"Oh look, it's Ella, I need to go" Emily said and smiled at me.
"It was really nice talking to you Jace, I'll see you later"
"Yeah, see ya later" I smiled as she left."You're quiet"
Nathan jumped up a bit, like I waked him up from his thoughts.
"Oh uhm, I just don't really, you know, talk to Emily anymore..." he sighed.
"What? Why?" I asked confused.
"It doesn't matter..." he said and I saw his eyes scanning the square.
"Come on"He dragged me along and I felt at least a dozen eyes on me. Why was everyone staring at me?
"Simon! Hey" Nate said and stopped in front of another guy.
"Jace, this is Simon, Sim this is Jace. He's the new guy from 21 down Cloverstreet"
"Oh right, the new people" he said and looked at me.
"I saw your parents in the shop this weekend, they seem nice""Wait what?" I asked confused.
"Oh, Jace moved here from the city" Nate explained.
"Ah, explains a lot" Simon said and smiled at me.
"So hey, I'm Simon. My parents own a shop in the center of town and I help them out in the weekends. That's how I met your parents. They were obviously new, didn't know how to find anything...""Yeah, you should get used to that, they won't remember" I said and he rolled his eyes.
"But yeah, I'm Jace, the new guy"
"Good to meet you, I hope" he smiled and looked at Nate with a look I couldn't quite place.
"What? Dude" he hissed and slapped him on his shoulder.
"No""Am I missing something?" I asked a bit confused.
"No!" Nate said immediately and looked a bit pissed at Simon.
"Jace, why don't I show you the secretariat so you can get all the info you need"
He pulled me away from Simon while they were still making faces to each other."What was that all about?" I asked as we entered the school building.
"Nothing" he said a bit too quickly and pushed me inside another room.
"Sandra, this is Jace, the new guy"
A woman came from behind a pc to a small counter and smiled at us.
"Ah, Jason Anderson, yes?""Yes" I said and saw how she took a bunch of papers from a shelf. Probably already sorted. She was prepared for my arrival, shouldn't expect otherwise.
"Here are all the papers you need. Class info, papers for your parents, school rules, schedule..." she started.
"Read them through, let your parents sign them and bring them in tomorrow"
"Okay" I said and shoved them away inside my bag."So which class you're in?" Nate asked as we got outside.
"I'm in MS" I said.
"What? Math and Sciences?" he asked a bit suprised.
"Something wrong with that?" I asked.
"No" he said.
"I just didn't expected it""Why? What do you do?"
"Economics" he said.
"Well didn't saw that one coming" I said and walked on.
"What's that supposed to mean?" he asked laughing and stopped me.
"Economics matter""But you don't"
I turned around and saw another guy, standing with his arms crossed, looking mad at Nathan.
"Jace, go" Nate whispered and pushed me aside.
"W-what? Why?"
"Just go" he hissed and I felt someone pulling me back. It was Simon. What was happening here?
"What do you want this time Peter?" Nate asked quietly without making any eye contact."You know exactly what I want Wheeler" he hissed and took him by his shirt. Only seconds later Nate was laying on the ground and this Peter guy was kicking him. Why was nobody doing something?! I sighed. First day and already confront the school bully... This was not a good plan...
"Back off!" I hissed and pushed Peter away from Nathan.
"What's wrong with you?!"
"Who's this Wheeler? Your little faggot friend? Hm?"
He was about to hit me when a teacher interupted. No. Sandra. From the secretariat. Nate got up and stepped back a bit. I saw the anger in Peters eyes while Sandra yelled at him. What did I do..?
