Chapter 20

Chapter 20: "A single lie discovered is enough to create doubt in every truth."

My brows pulled together as I scanned my facebook. Why hasn't he added me on fb yet! I was not into social media but because of Jeck I became active. I always checked if he has added me yet. Pero hanggang ngayon ay wala pa rin!

Inis na bumba ako sa highchair sa may island counter at sinilip si Jeck sa sala kung saan nakasubsob siya sa laptop niya. Bitbit ang hot chocolate ay lumapit ako sa kanya. I sat down beside him.

"Hot choco, babe?" He took a sip without even glancing at me then went back to what he was doing. "It's a Saturday, you know."

Tumigil siya sa pagtipa sa keyboard ng laptop niya at bumaling sa akin. Naiintindihan ko naman na trabaho iyon pero nakakainis lang na hindi nga siya pumasok sa office para magkasama kami ngayon at makauwi dito sa Golden Village. Pero trabaho pa rin ang kaharap niya ngayon.

He rested his hand on my knee and gave it a squeeze. "I'll just finish this, babe."

I just nodded. Again, I had to remind myself that I'm not the same bratty Dixie. When we were given another shot to be with each other again, I had made a promise to myself that I would be better than what he used to have in me. I had promised myself that I wouldn't give him any reason to leave me or even think of doing so.

"Alright. I'll just go to Sweet Refuge."

"Okay."

Yumuko ako at hinalikan siya sa labi. Paglabas ko ng bahay niya ay napa-buntong hininga na lang ako. Habang naglalakad ay nakasalubong ko pa sina Missy kasama ang mag-ama niya. 

"Hi baby Empress!"

"Xie-xie, where are you going?"

"Sa Sweet Refuge lang."

"Ah. By the way, where's Jeck?"

"Busy," tipid na sagot ko habang nilalaro si Empress.

Nagpaalam din sila agad dahil may pupuntahan pa sila. Pagdating ko sa Sweet Refuge ay naabutan ko pa si Tam sa counter. Kaagad siyang ngumiti at kumaway sa akin.

"Asan si Jeck?"

Inulit ko lang ang isinagot ko kay Missy kanina. Nag-order lang ako ng avocado shake at umupo sa may glass wall. Nag-phone na lang muna ako para aliwin ang sarili.

"Hey, Xie-xie!"

Umupo sa katabing table si Vash. Kasama niya si Calle na nakatutok sa phone niya.

"Hey."

"Where's Jeck?"

I breathed out harshly. "Do I look like Jeck's nanny? Why are you all looking for him?"

He seemed surprised at first then he chuckled. "Trouble in paradise?"

"Of course not!" I sighed. "Sorry. Jeck is busy at home."

"Hey!"

It was DJ. Kasama niya si Cassie na nginitian ako. Inokupa nila ang kalapit na table.

"Where's Jeck?" DJ asked.

Seriously? Why were they all looking for him! Bago pa ako makasagot ay naunahan na ako ng tawa ni Vash at sinabihan si DJ na wag na akong tanungin. Mayamaya ay sinamahan na ako ni Tam.

"May LQ kayo ni Jeck?"

I shook my head. She gave me the questioning look. I sighed and told her what was bothering me.
