Love, Annie

Chapter 16

Lovely Annie,

I just wanted to let you know that I got your last letter, but immediately following, I had to quickly write this one to let you know that I won’t be in town right now. I’ve to leave for Florida ASAP to help out one of my best mates.

Actually…

Have you heard of the Nickerson Case? Ciara Nickerson? Yeah, well, she was his best friend. If you’ve heard of it, you’d know she died last week. My mate only just got news of it. So we’re all heading out to help him out with it. If you have international texting or, kill me now, calling, please just do it. At this point, I don’t care about keeping it from you, about who I am. You’d find out sooner or later anyways. So call me if you can’t text me. We’ll see how it works out. If not, send me snail mail, alright?

I’ve enclosed the address along on the back of this so you can send mail if you need to. Don’t worry, sweet Annie. We’ll meet soon. I promise you.

Luckily YOURS, Annie. I love you,

Niall.

Annie

I’ve got your letter, Niall. I can text you. It’s alright. I’ll call you sometime soon, okay?

P.S. I love you too xx

Natasha gave me a weird look. “What, not going to flip out and write your letter to ‘Niall’?” she laughed at me.

I made a face at her and stuck my tongue out. “Shut up, Tash. And I can’t. He already left for Florida to help one of his best friends with the Nickerson Case. Have you heard of it, by the way?”

She raised her brows at me. “Yeah. Everyone has. It’s all over the news. Jason’s having a heart attack over it. He thinks it’s the perfect case for his liking. Oh, and Zayn even tweeted about it. Look,” she said, her fingers typing quickly, the little ‘click click’ every time she tapped.

Then she pushed the laptop over to me so I could see.

“Please help support the Ciara Nickerson Case. She was my best friend,” I read aloud.

“HA! Bam! I told you! I’m so winning!” Jason exclaimed. I shot my eyebrows up.

“So? She could have been a best friend to many people,” I told him.

Natasha gave us both weird looks and just shook her head, leaving us alone.

Jason shook his head from where he was under the blanket. “No, no. I’ve looked into this case. Deeply. She was a bullied girl. She didn’t have many friends.”

I bit my lip. “Just shut it.”

He put his hands up, smirking. “I’m just saying, kiddo.”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “I’m only nine months younger than you. I am not a ‘kiddo’.”

He rolled his eyes and lied back down. After a moment of silence between us, he said, “I think you should call this guy.”

I peered over at him. “Excuse me?”

“I said I think you call him,” he said, sitting upright again. “He obviously didn’t want you to hear his voice, because you’d recognize it. So call him. Go on restricted, so he’d pick it up. Or call from the house phone, pretend to be a telemarketer. Then he’d have to talk back. Nobody likes those guys,” he said, making a face.

I blinked and stared at him. “I’m not going to do that!”

“Why not?”

“I made a prom-”

“And he just told you can break it,” he pointed out, cutting me off, and having obviously read the letter.

“Hmph.”

I jumped when my phone blasted music.

“Pick it up, Annie!” Jason urged, snapping me out of my surprise.

My hand slapped down on the phone. After checking caller ID, I read the name out loud.

“Jason…it’s my Niall.”
