"Band and color guard are not sports." LIES. THEY ARE SPORTS.
Sport: "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."
Band does involve physical exertion and skill, whether or not you think it does. First, memorizing your music requires a lot of skill, let alone playing it on key. Same for guard: there's definitely physical exertion here, since you are throwing metal sticks and blocks of wood in the air and catching them. Skill here? Of course. You have to time everything perfectly, throw everything to the right height, catch it the right way, all of this while smiling and looking up.
A band is a team. And yes, we do have captains. Each section of the band has its own captain. (Our guard captain is Tony Tiller Toucan Tortellini Scoobert. Don't ask.) And we do compete against other bands. My band only had one competition this year but it was stressful preparing for this one competition. Everything had to be as perfect as it could be, in hopes of taking home a trophy in at least one category.
Entertainment? I'll be honest: I know not everyone wants to see a band marching around for 8 ish minutes. You know who does? Proud band siblings, parents, and alumni. And think of that one little kid watching, dazzled by the band's beauty. That one little kid who wants to join the band when they're older. (I know someone who wants to join color guard in high school. ❤️❤️)
And what's not entertaining/fascinating about this?

So PLEASE stop saying that band/color guard isn't a sport. Band is a sport. Color guard and winter guard are sports. (Please present this evidence to any haters.)
(Edit: idk why I posted this here, you readers are all fellow band/guard kids and wouldn't be hating on marching band.)
