She's been quiet ever since we arrived at the diner, I thought to myself, watching as she played with the straw in her drink. Why is her silence bothering me? The topic I brought up wasn't that sensitive, at least not to me, it was simply what she wanted to do after school... Unless she didn't want to go to college, and as much as I didn't like that idea, I knew college was a choice, unlike high school, you can choose to continue to college or not.

"I'm sorry," I ended up blurting out, staring at the little bubbles at the top of my vanilla milkshake. I could her eyes on me, causing me to look up and lock eyes with her, her brown eyes glossy before she blinked a few times, a chuckle escaping her lips. "I'm sorry if something I said earlier offended you, my lack of socializing tends to make me say stupid things."

"Nah, it's alright," she brushed it off, "college isn't something that I like to think about—neither the future." She continued to absentmindedly stir her milkshake, poking a fresh strawberry with her straw before letting it drop.

"It's understandable," I admitted, "you're the type to live in the present and go with the flow." Her eyes locked with mine again, an unidentified emotion passed by before they creased in the ends, a close-lipped smile formed as she nodded.

"But enough about me, where do you plan on going to college?" The food finally arrived and we ate as I shared my plans. I was still waiting for the responses to be either sent in through my mail, or email. "I know you'll be accepted into a lot of them, if you aren't, then they're missing out."

"Thanks, Brennan, but the only reason why I sent a lot out is so I have back-ups," I informed. We shared a few conversations while we ate, occasionally silence would take place between us but it wasn't uncomfortable, unlike earlier. Once we were done with eating, we sat in the booth for a little while until I remembered Jack, his threatening demeanor popping in my head.

"Who's Jack to you?" I asked.

"Jack? Jack Avery?" I nodded. "Oh, he's my cousin—his family takes care of me when my parents can't."

"Oh," I acknowledged, "he just seemed very... persistent on keeping us from being friends."

"Yeah, he's like that," she chuckled, "but don't worry, he can't hurt a fly, he's only looking out for me."

"Hmm... you don't seem like the type to be looked out for," I admitted, "I mean, you're quite good on your own if I had to be honest."

She grinned, her cheeks going noticeably red, "Thanks, but it's like a brotherly default with him since his family has been raising me for a while now."

"Ah alright," I nodded, "he seemed a bit threatening at first, I guess that's why I tried to keep my distance from you."

"He can't keep me from making friends," she stated, a playful smile on her lips. "Anyway, have you ever cliff-dived?" I was lucky to not have been drinking my milkshake when she asked that or else I would've choked on the content. The question seemed so sudden, a perfect one-eighty from what we were just talking about.

"What?"

"Cliff-dived, ever done it?" She asked again, raising her brow. She then proceeded to elaborate her idea, "I was walking around the woods where we almost got arrested—" I couldn't help but chuckle at the memory, it feels like a life-time ago since that happened, "—and I found a cliff, where below was a lake and I even had walked down to the lake and it was the perfect area for cliff-diving—"

"Please don't tell me you tried to cliff-dive then."

"I did, and I'm here so we'd be good," she lifted her arms, a wide grin appeared and her eyes sparkled. "So, what do you think? We could go tomorrow."

"Tomorrow? But the tattoo?"

"It'll be okay by tomorrow," she waved it off. Hanson's words echoed in my head as I stared at her. "Are you thinking about what Hanson– fine, I'll bring you a water-proof bandage or something to cover it, you're lucky your tattoo isn't big."

"If I get an infection, you're paying my medical bill," I warned her.

She mock-saluted me, "Aye, aye, captain." She then stood up, heading towards the counter and we split the bill. Once the transaction was completed, she gently hit my arm, "Come on, I'll drive you home." I nodded, and we sat in her car, on the way to my house.

"Do you want to come in? I'm sure my mom would like to see you," I told her, "the topic of you never seems to bore her."

"Well of course, I'm an interesting topic to be brought up," she laughed, "I'd like—" before her sentence had finished, her phone vibrated on her lap, the screen lighting up and I caught a glimpse of the name on the screen. Dr. Travis. "Sorry," she mumbled, flipping the phone away from my view before answering the phone. "Hello?" She continued to drive, slowing down a little. "Now? Alright. Bye." She hung up, irritation evident on her face.

"Everything alright?" I asked cautiously.

"Yeah, I'll need to give you a rain-check for going to your house," she informed as we pulled up by my curb. "Tell Keri I said hi." I nodded, sending her a small smile before climbing out the car. I stood on the pavement, and waved back when she did before her car sped off.

I was confused when I entered my house, my mom immediately approaching me, "How was it? Can I see?" I plastered on a smile, nodding. As I showed her my tattoo, I couldn't help but think again. Why would a doctor need to call her?

so this book is going to have only 25 chapters and imma admit, this story was really fun to write but also tiring cuz i needed to have a lot of correct things placed and other stuff like that, so if something doesn't make sense, please keep in mind that i tend to write and not think things through a lot but i still try to create a stable plot

im almost done with school, in a few days i'll be having my graduation and genuinely, i never thought i'd see the end of high school, always thought i'd be stuck on an endless loop of waking up at the crack of dawn to meet people i dont necessarily enjoy being around

anyway, i'll be updating three times a week now just so i'll get the story over with. dont forget to vote, comment and share :)x
