I tossed and turned in the middle of the night. Something sharp was laying in my bed. I tried kicking it out, but my feet didn't feel any objects at all. Finally, i threw the covers of my legs to see what was bothering me.
I gasped loudly. Immediately I slapped a hand over my mouth. Jane was still sleeping. I quietly and quickly tiptoed to the bathroom and shut the door behind me. Making sure to lock it. When I was sure Jane couldn't hear me, I breathed out loudly. I turned the lights on and shuddered as I looked at what had woken me up.
Scales. Thick golden scales. They had covered my legs entierly making me look like a disco ball. Mother had warned me of the scales. She said if a mermaid stayed on land to long, she would grow scales on their arms and legs. Not to mention their natural hair color would start to dull. It was just my legs this time, and my hair was fine, but probaly not for long. I tried to think of ways to remove the scales by morning. I paced back and forth in the small bathroom.
Then suddenly i had an idea! I slowly opened the bathroom door and tiptoed across to where the bedroom door was. Jane was remarkably still sleeping. I opened the door and locked it behind me. I was dressed in only shorts and a tank top. I slowly walked down the corridor, the floor made creaking noises in the middle of the night, making me feel more nervous.
When i had reached the outside, I made it a habit to hide behind tall objects.
I heard a giggling nearby. A female and Male voice. I looked over the tree I was hiding behind and couldn't believe my eyes.
Chad and Audrey where pressed against a wall and making out. I felt sorry for Ben. Audrey didn't deserve him. I quietly made my way past the two. They didn't notice when I accidentaly stepped on a branch making it snap loudly or when I tripped over a rock and fell flat on my face. Heck! they were to busy locking lips to notice.
I had finally made it to the pond. During midnight, it looked bright and beautiful. The moon's light reflecting of the water to make it look magical, the water was still in the night. that was it's time of rest. It looked like glass though. Perfect glass.
