Leaving
Hindi umalis si Charlie sa tabi ko hanggang sa kumalma ako. I wiped my tears off of my face at tsaka hinarap si Charlie.
"Baka kailangan ka na dun. You should go there and save his life. I'll be fine here." Sabi ko. Nag-aalala niya naman akong tiningnan.
"Are you sure?" I nod my head to show him that I'm 100% sure about my answer. Tumango rin siya at tumayo na.
Bago naman siya tuluyang makapasok sa operating room ay nagsalita ako. He turns to me quickly.
"Save his life for me, Charlie... please." I beg. Tinitigan niya lang ako.
Alam kong mahirap mangako lalo na kung ganitong bagay ang usapan. I can't even make a promise to my patients that they're going to live. All that I'm capable of promising is that I'll do my best.
Kaya hindi na rin ako nagulat kung ganitong reaksyon ang ibinibigay sa akin ni Charlie ngayon.
He sigh heavily. "I promise."
I pressed my lips into a thin line and nodded my head again. "Thank you."
When he entered the operating room I started praying to God. Alam kong Siya lang ang may kakayahang magligtas kay Kiel ngayon. Kiel has been into more critical conditions, yet he survived.
I never stopped praying until I heard the door opened. Agad akong napalingon doon at nakita kong lumabas si Ethan. Mabilis akong napatayo dahilan kung bakit nagawi ang tingin niya sa akin.
"How was it?" I asked.
Patuloy akong nagdadasal habang hindi niya parin sinasagot ang tanong ko. Please be a good news... Please...
"It went well," I sighed. Thank You, Lord! Thank You so much! "But I still need to keep an eye on him. He will undergo another surgery if needed."
Tumango ako. Ang mahalaga ngayon ay ligtas siya. Ethan manages to save his life twice! And I need to thank Charlie for keeping his promise.
"Hey," Ethan called. "Are you okay?"
Pilit akong ngumiti sakanya. Charlie must've informed him why I wasn't at the operation even when I was supposed to.
"Of course, thanks for asking."
"You know what? You should go back to Dr. Eugenio, Brittany. Hindi sa nangangaelam ako sa desisyon mo, but I'm asking this as a friend and also because I wanted you to get better."
