My forehead creased when we reached our house. Nilingon ko si Benjamin na seryosong ipinapasok ang kanyang kotse sa gate.
"Why are the lights off?" I asked.
Tsaka lang ako sinagot ni Benjamin nang iparada na niya ng maayos ang kotse. He turns to me. "Oh, maybe something's wrong again. Let's go."
I shrug it off at tsaka bumaba na ng kotse kasama siya. I was about to tell him to get my things but then the maids did the work for him. I thanked them. Ngumiti sila sa akin.
"Welcome back po, Ma'am Brittany!" bati nila. Nagagalak ko silang nginitian.
"Salamat!"
Hinabol ko naman ang kapatid ko na mukhang walang pakialam kung nakakasunod pa ba ako sakanya o hindi. I was about to open the door, when he stops me.
"Oops. Not here..." aniya at tsaka ako giniya papunta sa garden.
"What? Where are we going? Aren't we supposed to get inside? I still want to greet mom and dad-"
"Surprise!" hindi ko na naituloy pa ang pagtatanong sa kapatid ko nang bigla akong nagulat sa pag-sigaw ng maraming tao.
Napahawak ako sa aking dibdib at agad naman akong nilingon ni Benjamin. Natahimik ang lahat nang bigla siyang sumigaw.
"Such a bad idea! I told you she's going to get scared again!" reklamo niya. Hinampas ko naman siya.
"I'm not scared, dumbass! I'm surprised!" binaling ko ang tingin sa mga tao na nandidito.
Everyone is here. Even some staff from the hospital are here! Wow! I did not expect this at all!
Agad akong sinalubong ni Mommy na mukhang maiiyak pa ngayon.
"Oh, dear! You look well! You look very healthy! I missed you!" she examined my features then she kissed both of my cheeks. Mukha namang hindi siya nakuntento na gawin lang iyon ng isang beses dahil paulit-ulit niya akong hinahalikan sa aking pisngi, mukhang miss na miss talaga ako.
I turned to my father who is now waiting for me to come up to him. He smiled genuinely at me once I reached him.
"I missed you, dear!" he exclaimed. Ngumiti ako. My father hugged me so tight.
"This is why you were not able to fetch me in the airport huh? You were planning this all along?" sabi ko. My mom giggled.
"Oh, we are so busy with this! Last minute invitation pa 'to! Buti at nakumbinsi ni Gio na sumama ang iba niyang empleyado sa ospital."
"Of course, mom, they will agree. He's the boss!" ani Benjamin. Inirapan naman siya ni Mommy.
"Tse. Go get your wife! You're leaving her alone when you should keep her entertained."
