Moonlight (pt.2) (Engineer)

As everyone entered the restock room, rejuvenated from a long, struggling battle, they collapsed with pride.

"Another easy win, boys!" Soldiers rough voice shouted as he ran in, swinging his shovel in circles. He accidentally hit Heavy's back with a loud clang, and with a grumbly, angry shout the two started wrestling. Laughing, you noticed Sniper looking at you. You glanced his way and gave a friendly wave, and he grinned a bit, tipping his hat. He seemed to be in a lot better mood since he had a good day of sniping headshots.

Walking over to you, he stopped next to you and leaned his arm against the wall.

"Hi." You said looking up at him. Taking off his hat, his eyes looked everywhere but you. You raised an eyebrow, but before you could ask the bloke he spoke, running his free hand through his hair.

"You see, uhm, I feel horrible about how I snapped at you this morning. I realized later you only wanted to do what Engineer asked and you don't have any part of our quarrel." Your lips turned up, happy he was in such a good mood. Engie would benefit from this, maybe they could finally work out their differences since they're both well at the moment.

"That's really nice of you to apologize, and I accept it." You smiled.

"I have something else to ask you though, too, (y/n).." he put his hat back on his head and grabbed your hand, leading you around the corner of the room away from prying eyes. Little did he know there were a set of prying ears listening in.

"What is it, Snipes...?" You asked, wondering why it needed to be so private.

"I... I think.." With a debonair grin and thumping heart Sniper said three words you never expected to hear. "..I love you."

You were taken aback as your heart stopped. Love..? Wasn't that a little strong all at once? You did hang out often. Sniper was like a brother to you, always there for you, cracking jokes now and again at each other's screw-ups...

You moved away from him faking a kind smile.

"Wow... I'm.. I'm really flattered, Sniper.." Sniper.. you didn't even know the man's real name! How could he love you and how could you love him if you both knew so little about each other?

"This is just.. All too much at once. I didn't know you felt this way.. I haven't been leading you on have I?" You got a little nervous and Sniper moved forward.

"No, no! I didn't mean to scare you shiela, it's just.. We've known each other for awhile, and if you'll have me I'd be honored. Would you like to go on a date with me?"

At this point the prying ears stopped listening. They'd heard quite enough.

You had, too.

"Sniper, I... No. This is quite sudden. You're a great guy and good looking. You'd make a great boyfriend, I'm sure of it, but..." you didn't know how else to word it.

"I see. I see the damned man beat me to it, then?!" Sniper raised his voice with a large frown. Rearing his head, he yelled an obscenity you'd never even heard of before. You quickly jumped back, and all you could think of as you looked at him was a child who didn't get his way. Why was he acting this way? He turned towards you with anger and sadness, and you pitied him for a moment before he sighed.
