28: Leigh

While Leigh was at the library, she kept glancing over at the couple in the corner, working on their homework. The boy was explaining something, whispering to his companion as he tapped the end of his pencil against the paper. The girl was looking at him, with so much admiration; it made Leigh’s stomach ache. The girl was captivated by the boy’s voice, the way he spoke, the way his lips moved as he pronounced each word.

Then he looked up from the paper and glanced at the girl. The look they shared was indescribable. Then he gently bumped his nose against hers and grinned.

            Leigh wanted that with Noah.

She wanted a familiar face to turn to, someone to smile at like that. She wanted to inhale his soap and new books smell and get lost in his arms. She wanted to have discussions about books and hear his voice and memorise his words. She wanted to make him laugh when he was sad and forget the world when he needed an escape.

She didn’t want there to be just a Leigh.

She wanted there to be a Noah and Leigh.

But she was starting to doubt that it would ever happen.
