Break Through My Shell (Shouto Todoroki x Reader)

Chapter 6

The battle between Teams A and D ended with the hero team getting the win. However, Uraraka ended up quite nauseous and struggled to not puke, and Midoriya had a broken arm, while the villain team came out relatively unscathed.

"It's our turn now," Shouto said. As you entered the new battle area—the first one had been damaged severely by Midoriya and Bakugou—you thought about where to hide the weapon.

"I guess on the highest floor in an open space..." you murmured. You dragged it up the next few flights of stairs, locating an empty room at the top and pushing the weapon inside. You could hear All Might's voice coming from a speaker somewhere.

"Young (Last Name), are you ready?"

"Yes, sir," you replied. A buzzer sounded, and you knew thirty minutes was how long you had to defend it for.

Your finger markings glowed, it probably would got the majority of the battle as you were most likely going to have to use your quirk a lot, and you increased your hearing.

"She's on the top floor," you heard Shouto's teammate, Shouji Mezo, say. You heard a crackle of ice before your attention was diverted to the only door that the room you were in had. It spread quickly through the threshold of the door before heading towards you and the rest of the walls, floor, and ceiling.

You weren't going to let anything happen though. You were going to win.

You flicked your hand and the ice shattered, twinkling in the air as it fell to the ground in tiny shards.

You could hear the footsteps of Shouto coming from the stairwell, so you raised your arms and cast a barrier around you and the weapon, concentrating so it would stay up.

"So you managed to evade my ice attack," Shouto said coolly. He pressed his ear piece. "Shouji, come to the top floor."

"I'm going to win." You watched as his eyebrows furrowed. A wave of ice ensued, rushing towards you. But when it hit your barrier, it stopped, and Shouto looked confused. Shouji appeared at the doorway.

"I want to battle with Shouto alone," you said, pointing towards the multi-armed boy who just arrived. He grunted as chains wound around his body and pierced through the wall, effectively trapping him in place. "Sorry."

Shouto grit his teeth before sending a larger pillar of ice towards you. Instead of draining your energy and keeping the barrier up, you released it, allowing the ice to trap you in place.

"Looks like you were all talk," Shouto said, allowing his left side to warm the frostbite and ice on the skin of his right side. He started to walk towards the secret weapon, but when he stepped next to you, the ice around you exploded, pelting him with chunks of ice and making him leap back to dodge it.

"I know the basics of your quirk, but you don't know mine," you murmured. "You can't win."

"I'm going to win." Ice continued to flow out in varying layers and they traveled towards you, threatening to freeze you. You raised your hand, making a gun shape with your pointer finger and thumb, and you shot large blasts towards the ice.

But as you were doing that, he rushed forward to tag the weapon.

"Go, Todoroki!" Shouji shouted.

You flicked your hand towards his body and sent him flying towards the wall. Your battle continued, but like he said in the coffee shop, he didn't use his fire.

Still, although no words were exchanged between the two of you, you could tell he truly was trying to win, without the help of his left side.

Todoroki was studying the way you fought, taking note of any habits you had. He noticed that you never let opponents get close to you, so he figured if he got to you in close-quarters combat, he could overpower you.

He raced towards you, making you flinch and step back, holding out your hand to attack. He was much quick, though, and his fist came up to punch you, which you barely blocked.

"Shit..." you breathed, trying to dodge his next attack, an uppercut. He figured out your weakness: hand-to-hand fighting. You relied on your quirk a lot of the time, and figured you wouldn't need to learn it, a mistake on your part.

He punched your stomach and sent you stumbling towards the side, once again running towards the weapon as you coughed.

You were also starting to get a headache from using your quirk, which was a pain because if it hurt a lot, it would impair your ability to think straight.

You thrusted your hand towards his body, a glowing net appearing over his head in response. As it fell, he was forced to create an ice shield over him, but it did no good in stopping him.

His hand was about to brush the weapon, when a buzzer sounded and All Might's voice came through.

"Thirty minutes is up! The battle ends in a draw!"

You sighed, collapsing to the ground and rubbing the places where you were punched. You had a painful headache, one that was throbbing and making you wish you could die. That was how bad it was. You also released Shouji from his chain prison.

"Are you alright, (Name)?"

You glanced up to find Todoroki offering a hand, which you took, wincing in pain.

"I apologize for hitting you so hard, I assumed you would've been able to take it," he said, helping you up. His left side was emitting heat, melting any chunks of ice around him.

"It's fine... it's a battle trial, so you have to go all out. Do...do you need help melting the ice?"

"You seem to be in pain from a headache. If that is the repercussion of your quirk, you shouldn't use it until you feel better," he said in response. You shook your head, saying it was fine.

You concentrated, attempting to ignore the pain, and you spread heat to the entire building. The ice melted quickly and evaporated into the air when it became water.

"Thank you, (Name)."

You nodded slowly, holding your head has pain rushed through it. You turned to see Shouto offering a block of ice, which you gratefully took and pressed to the top of your head.

"I can carry you back, if you're in too much pain," he offered.

"N-no, it's fine," you said, staggering towards the stairwell. You slowly, but surely, made your way down, Shouto watching you to make sure if you were really okay.

"It's like they're dating!" Uraraka squealed in the monitoring room, watching the two of you make your way down. "They look like they're quite close too!"

"I wonder if that's truly the case," Yaoyorozu said.

"They're both quite strong though," Iida commented.

"Indeed they are! It proves that if you work hard, you too can become powerful, although you all already are, in your own right!" All Might boomed, a smile plastered to his face.

"I can't believe it was only her against the two of them, and she still managed to hold her ground! What a hot chick!" Kaminari said, smirking.
