"Back to regular scheduled programming." I mumbled to myself before unlocking the door to my office the following Monday morning.
My birthday vacation was officially over and I was back in cold, ugly New York City. I'd had more fun than I'd had in a very long time. To be honest, I couldn't wait to get back out there to the beautiful beaches, sunshine, and palm trees. Couldn't wait to get back in Trey's arms either. Although it was just yesterday that I saw him, I missed him terribly. Sleeping in my bed alone was awful last night after four nights of sleeping with his gorgeous ass. What was so crazy was he had just as bad a night as I did because he'd called me in the middle of the night to tell me he missed me. We ended up talking until we both fell asleep on the phone like two teenage kids.
I walked in and turned the lights on and went into my personal office space and brewed me a cup of coffee.
Once I sat down at my desk and opened my email, I sighed. My inbox was full which meant I had a lot of work to do today. My clients weren't used to me being on vacation, they were usually always able to contact me for their business needs.
I started working and getting caught up and was making pretty good progress.
"Good morning!" Mya said walking into my office about an hour later.
"Morning Mya. How are you?"
"Great, how are you?"
"Pretty good, a little overwhelmed but I'm working through it."
"Well no sweat, I'm here to save the day." She smiled as she sat down at my desk.
"How was your vacation?"
I smiled, "Amazing."
"Honey you're glowing!" She said snapping in a circle.
I laughed nervously, "That's a good thing right?"
"Of course It is. Love looks good on you boss lady." She said winking before getting up to leave the office.
"Thanks Mya, you're sweet." I yelled behind her.
"You're welcome, forward me some of your emails and I'll respond to what you haven't gotten to yet."
"You're a lifesaver." I said before she left the office.

Three hours later...

"I want the Cobb salad with lite vinegarette dressing." I told Mya as she wrote it down.
"Okay, I'm gonna call it in and I'll go get in shortly." She said picking up the phone.
"Thank you." I said about to walk into my office before I heard the elevator ding signaling someone was coming into the office. Since Mya was on the phone, I stayed put to greet whoever was coming.
Once I saw his face appear around the corner, I rolled my eyes hard as hell.
What the fuck was he doing here?
"Hey Thi Thi." He said smiling at me.
"Don't call me that. What do you want?" I said bluntly.
"I wanna rap with you for a second." He said nervously.
"I'm busy, I don't have a second." I replied flatly.
"Okay, I deserve that. Maybe dinner later tonight or this week?"
"Not gonna happen." I said folding my arms across my chest.
He looked so exasperated as he stared at me intently, "I really wanna say something to you. Please?"
"What is it David?" I was annoyed by his presence.
"Can I Come in your office?"
"Fine, come in if you just have to." I said rolling my eyes and following him in.
I closed the door behind me, "What is it?"
"Cynthia, I'm sorry." He said immediately.
Something about hearing him say that felt amazing. For everything he'd put me through, an apology was definitely what he should start with. He had my attention so far.
"For what?" I said clearing my throat.
"Everything. For not being there for you when your mom passed away, for pushing you away before that, for not calling to check on you afterwards, for being a horrible man to you. You didn't deserve any of that and I've held all that in for years because I was too much of a coward to face you, but seeing you out in LA did something to me."
My eyes started to water as I tried to talk myself out of crying. Truth be told, David at one point meant a lot to me. I was in love with him and thought by this point in our lives we'd be married with children with a picket fence and dog and what not. Funny how time changes things.
"I appreciate your apology." I finally got enough strength to say.
"Even though I wasn't around, I still thought about you. I never stopped thinking about you or loving you, I still love you." He admitted as he walked towards me.
I quickly went around to my desk chair and sat down before he could approach me.
Things were going perfect with Trey and I didn't want to risk having a weak moment with David all because he suddenly came back into my life.
"It's nice to hear that but David I'm with someone else now."
"And?" He said perplexed.
"And that means you can't be in love with me."
"I can't not be Cynthia. Don't you think I thought of that myself? How can I be in love with someone I haven't been with in four years? But I am. I've gotten some what successful with my music career and what not but I'm still not happy. It's like I'm missing something and that's you."
I shook my head, "And you just so happen to feel this way after seeing me with Trey?"
"Maybe."
"There is no maybe. You weren't thinking about me until you saw me out in What is supposed to be your element with another guy who I'm guessing is more successful than you, so now you're threatened."
He raised his eyebrows, "That was a jab but I'll take that on the chin for you."
"Whatever David. I appreciate your apology but I need you to fall out of love with me ASAP because there's nothing on my end that will help you with that. I'm in a relationship with someone who I happen to have pretty strong feelings for so, yeah, that's that."
He chuckled, "You mean Trey? The same nigga whose moniker is Mr. Steal your Girl? You got feelings for that playboy ass nigga? Seriously? You smarter than that Cynthia."
"And What is that supposed to mean?" I said offended.
"That he doesn't take you seriously, he's a superstar! You're a cute face and a nice body for him to cool it with for the time being but as soon as another fine ass chick comes his way, he's gonna be at her and you'll be left in the dust."
As much as I wanted to brush off what he was saying, I couldn't help but wonder if he was right in his assumptions. I mean the chick who showed up at the party was a gorgeous girl. She seemed to really like him too from how she acted in the video that hit the blogs and from how she acted at the house. Why wasn't he into her anymore? Because I was the next 'Fine ass chick that came his way'?
The more I thought about it, it bothered me significantly, but I'd be damned if I let David's ass know that.
"You sound like a hater David. I never took you for that type." I replied with a sarcastic smile.
He smiled, "Okay Cyn. I'll be a hater if that's what you want me to be. But you know deep down that I'm right."
I rolled my eyes, "Since when are you a music artist?"
He shrugged, "I was playing around in my cousins studio one night and found out I was good at rapping. So that's what I do now, get paid to rap."
I nodded, "Interesting."
"Definitely making a lot more money than I was making managing that car lot my dad left me." He added.
"I'm glad it's going well for you. Anything else?" I said wrapping up the conversation so he could go and leave me be.
"Nah, I guess that's it for now. I'll go and let you get back to work."
"Alright, have a good evening." I said picking up a file.
He turned around and smiled when he reached the door, "You too Thi Thi."
"Dude..."
"Okay, Okay. Bye Cynthia." He said closing the door behind him.
I rolled my eyes for what seemed like the millionth time today as I thought about everything that he'd said to me.
Even though I hated to admit it, what he said would definitely weigh heavy on my mind.
