Kara woke up in an empty bed, a note from Lucy on the pillow next to her. She read it quickly, sighing. It read, 'Hey. Had to help Clark, but please explain to me why Lena keeps texting you to ask you out for coffee when I get back. I trust you'll deny her.' Kara picked up her phone to see three texts from her best friend's number.
Lee: Hey, it's Lena :)
Lee: I mean, you obviously already know that because I'm a contact in your phone.
Lee: I'm an idiot.
Lee: I was just wondering if you'd like to go for coffee. Sorry I'm spamming you.
Kara smiled as she rolled out of bed, trying to write a response in her head. I'd love that. Just have to explain to the girlfriend haha. Was it necessary to tell Lena about her relationship drama? Probably not. Lena hated Lucy already. Kara shook her head and typed a different response.
Kara: Coffee sounds amazing, love! Whenever you're free. :)
Lee: Tomorrow? I have a business trip with my CFO the day after that, and I'd love to see you before that. I miss my favorite reporter. :(
Kara: Perfect, tomorrow's Sunday, so no work and no sister. Alex's wife wants to steal her for the day and Luce hangs out with her sister all day. Perfect.
Lee: Perfect! See you! Love ya.
Kara: Love you, too, Lee.
Kara's smile grew larger than normal as she used her superspeed to get ready for the day, blasting her music. Her phone rang, interrupting her song. It was Lucy.
"Hey, baby. What's up?" Kara asked, still walking around the apartment as she grabbed her notebook, laptop, and headphones so that she could sit in her favorite little coffee shop for awhile..
"Snuck away from Lois and Clark. Explain, please." Lucy insisted.
"It's just Lee. She's my best friend and she knows that I have a girlfriend. I didn't say no, but I promise she's not into me." Kara answered.
"I trust you." Lucy replied.
"Good. I'll come save you in about an hour. I love you." Kara smiled.
"Actually, Supergirl is going to come help Clark out soon, but I'll see you as soon as we're done. I promise." Lucy sighed.
"Oh. Okay." Kara replied, a bit deflated. She hated lying, especially since she knew Lucy helped Clark.
"I love you so, so, so much. We're actually going to Lois' for dinner tonight, so I'll probably meet you there." Lucy explained.
"Okay. You wanna stay over tonight?" Kara asked.
"I promised Lois I'd stay with her. She hates staying home alone while Clark fights supervillains. She wanted company tonight." Lucy sighed.
"Okay. I'll see you tonight." Kara replied quietly. She hung up the phone, suddenly feeling less excited for the day. She decided to go flying instead of out for coffee. That always made her feel better.
Kara hovered above the city, floating on her back as she listened to the traffic and people below her. It was past the time she had to meet Lucy as Supergirl, but right now, she didn't care. After awhile, she found herself hovering over the L-Corp building, listening to Lena's heartbeat. Alex came on the comms suddenly, interrupting her peace.
"Clark's been calling for over an hour. Care to explain?" Alex asked, mildly pissed at her little sister for missing an important meeting.
"It's been an hour?" Kara asked guiltily, beginning to float in an upright position.
"Kara." Alex snapped.
"It's Luce. I didn't want to see her. I went flying, too, and I lost track of time. I'll talk to Clark." Kara explained, her eyes closed as she continued listening to the steady beat of Lena's heart.
"Kara, that meeting was important!" Alex almost shouted.
"I know. I also know everything they know, which is the same amount as they did last meeting. I have super hearing and a girlfriend on the inside. She either tells me or I hear it over phone calls." Kara shrugged, moving from laying on her back to floating standing up.
"Do you want to have dinner with Sam, Rubes and I? Her friend is coming. I think it's fair." Alex asked, letting go of the subject.
"We were going to have dinner with Lois, but that sounds a hell of a lot better right now." Kara sighed, lowering herself slightly.
"I'll see you later. Watch where you fly, Kar. I love you." Alex held her finger over the button to mute the DEO's comms and give Kara her peace.
"Love you, too. See you." Kara heard the comms click as Alex muted them, suddenly aware of her surroundings. Her feet were planted on something solid, but she was too high up to be on the ground. She spun on her heel, finding a very shocked Lena Luthor on the balcony.
"I'm so sorry. I was just out floating, but I got a call, so I got kind of distracted. I'll just...go." Kara stammered.
"No!" Lena shouted suddenly. "I mean, I'd like to at least meet the hero of National City. Bragging rights and all that..." The brunette seemed flustered.
"Right. Well, I know your name and I can't tell you mine, so I guess we don't need an introduction." Kara giggled awkwardly.
"Yeah, I guess. I...I've been wanting to meet you, actually. To apologize for my brother's actions against your cousin. I've always felt a bit guilty seeing you save the world over and over, but knowing that my brother tried to kill your only living family." Lena explained.
"I heard that you wanted to meet me. Kara Danvers and I talk almost daily. Honestly, I wish she didn't have a girlfriend. You'd be cute together." Kara replied. What did you say? You have a girlfriend, Kara Zor-El! Kara silently cursed herself for that.
"I don't like girls!" Lena insisted immediately.
"We're good friends. She told me about what you said. Kara thought...she didn't know she'd be outing you." Kara stammered. She mentally rolled her eyes. It was weird to talk about herself in the third person.
"It's fine, I guess. I didn't even think I was...you know...until Kara showed up. I swear she stared at my boobs for a good five minutes before I distracted her." Lena laughed softly.
"You figured it out that fast? Took me years to understand it. My sister took like a couple weeks. It's weird to think about." Kara blurted out.
"You're gay?" Lena asked. "You have a sister?" She gasped, immediately getting a bit excited.
"Adoptive sister. She's great." Kara facepalmed as she realized how much information she was giving Lena.
"What?" Lena asked.
"No one is supposed to know anything about me other than what I look like. I slipped." Kara explained. She heard the comms click back on.
"Kara, get your ass over here before you tell Lena your secret identity and kiss her." Alex commanded.
"Shoot. You heard that?" Kara asked, bringing her hand up to her ear.
"All of it. You screwed up." Alex answered.
"No duh, dummy. I'm on my way." Kara giggled.
"Someone calling?" Lena asked.
"Yeah, they muted themselves and listened in on all of that. I have to go." Kara shot into the sky and sped towards the DEO, doing loops and spinning on her way. She knew that since she was with Lucy, it didn't matter if Lena was gay or not, but she couldn't help the giddy feeling in her stomach.
