The sound of a beeping machine and footsteps woke me up. My eyes hurt from all the crust around them. I took in a deep breath, stretching my legs slowly. I looked at the window beside my bed; strips of sunlight escaping in between the shades.

"You're awake," a familiar voice boomed.

I jumped up, mid eye rub.

She wore an all black business suit with a white buttoned down shirt. Her heels clacked as she opened the shades some more. My eyes watered, the sunlight practically melting them off.

"God, Mom."

Her auburn hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail, red lipstick painted on.
She began pulling the covers over my feet.

"Hey baby," she beamed.

Up close, I noticed a bit of makeup was smudged on her eyelids and cheeks.

"Are you hungry? Do you need me to get the nurse?" She rubbed some strands away from my face.

I yawned, instinctively feeling my chest. "I'm okay. What day is it?"

She sat at the edge of the bed, tight lipped. I was practically her twin minus her baby blue eyes with hints of hazel in them.

"It's Tuesday. I came in last night but you were asleep again."

Sheesh. I thought. I slept the whole rest of the day yesterday?

"Brynn is going to stop by soon." Mom said as she texted on her phone.

Brynn?

My mind raced.

Who's Br-

My question was answered as the door swung open. A freckled girl with the greenest eyes on earth strolled in with her natural dark blonde hair in a messy top knot. She was in fluffy pink pajama pants with a Harry Styles Tshirt and flip flops, a hot pink backpack on her back and a coffee cup in her hand.

"Gooooooood mooooorniiiiinngggg!" She sung.

My mother sighed, putting a hand to her temple. "Must you scream like that at nine in the morning?"

Brynn plopped down at the edge of my bed, scooting my mom off. "Most people are skydiving at nine in the morning, Miss M. Plus, that's not screaming, this is screaming..."

She proceeded to belt out possibly the loudest noise in mankind ever.

"Stop that!" My mother grabbed her purse and phone. "I'm going to work. Make sure she eats, Brynn. And don't be so loud."

Brynn smiled at me, her neon green braces sparkling. "Oh, don't worry about her, Miss M. She's gonna be juuuust fiiiine."

She wiggled her eyebrows mysteriously as my mother typed on her phone.

"Right, well. Have fun girls. Seriously, Brynn. She needs to eat."

She kissed me on the forehead and playfully pulled a loose strand on Brynn's head.

"Oww!"

Mom smirked, walking out the door.

Brynn rubbed where Mom pulled. "I'm gonna pull her hair one day. See how she likes it."

I sat up and hugged my best friend as tight as I could. "God, I missed you!"

She groaned but hugged me back. "Yeah, yeah. Missed you too, kid."

She pulled back, observing me. "That car really messed you up, huh?"

"Brynn!"

"What? It did. Have you seen yourself?"
