I walked over and grabbed the apartment phone and answered.

"What is it Tommy?" Tommy was the doorman at my apartment building. He was in this early thirties, but he still looked and acted like he was in his twenties. He was the type that was still trying to find his way in the adult world.

"Hi, uhh, Miss Lee, there's a visitor for you and it is not Ms. Park," Tommy said.

"Tell her to wait for Ms. Park and then let them in."

"Yes, ma'am." I still wasn't used to being called ma'am especially from people who were older than me and I cringed at the word.

I hung the phone up and ran toward my bedroom. I quickly brushed my hair and pulled it into a ponytail. I looked down at my clothes. Sweatshirt and joggers, not the most fashionable clothes, but at least they were comfortable.

A hard knock was heard at my door and I quickly ran toward it. "Deep breaths, Cara." I pulled open the door as my eyes widened in shock.  She looked like she walked out the cover of Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. Didn't that magazine love leggy blondes? Her wavy blonde hair fell past her shoulder and she had clear blue eyes. She wore a cream color jacket over a white v-neck and light blue, denim jeans.

"Cara," Jane greeted me with a smile. "This is Hannah."

"Hi." I waved awkwardly as I stepped away from the door. I felt inadequate standing in front of her. She looked like the stereotypical All-American girl that people kept praising and I was the stereotypical short Asian, who people assumed was a foreigner even though I was born in the lovely United States of America.

"Hannah, this is Cara," Jane said.

"Nice to meet you," Hannah said with a smile. She reached her hand out for a moment before second guessing it and moving it back.

"Jane said you weren't the handshake type of person," Hannah mentioned.

Her voice was bright and everything girly. I nodded while I tried my best not to frown. Jane was already in the process of removing her shoes while Hannah did the same, much to my surprise.

"Do you...do you normally do that?" I pointed to Hannah's shoes.

"Of course. The streets of New York are nasty," she said with a laugh.

At that moment I hated her a little less. Once they were inside, I closed the door behind them.

"There's a large kitchen like I said before. Perfect for making any home cooked meals," Jane said. "Windows on all sides of the room, so that you can have that perfect view of the city."

If Jane wanted to, she could have been a great realtor.

"There's also a gym, a pool and a virtual game room if you're interested in that stuff."

"That's wonderful." Hannah's eyes roamed the room.

I didn't want to stare at her but I couldn't help it for some reason. I wanted to know what she was thinking and I also wanted to say stop staring at my stuff.

"They also have a yoga studio and spin studio as well," Jane added. "Everything you need to keep in shape will be at your fingertips."

"That's nice," Hannah said as she nodded before she turned toward me. "So Cara, Jane told me you're a writer."

My eyes widened at the sudden attention. " Yes...." I glanced at Jane with panic eyes. I was very personal with my stories that I used a pen name for my books .

"You wrote two best sellers," Hannah added.

"Hannah, why don't you take a look at the bedroom," Jane said quickly.

"Oh okay." Hannah's eyes lingered on me for a moment before following Jane into the bedroom."

I followed behind them, staying near the doorway. The other bedroom was pretty plain, since I used it as a guest room in case my sister visited. It had parquet flooring, a queen size bed with royal purple bedding, white walls and a white retro computer desk. A french empire lamp sat on top of a mahogany night stand. The best part about the room was the walk in closet. What model wouldn't like a walk in closet?

"It's plain right now, but you can definitely redecorate it to fit your own style," Jane explained.

"I like it. It's better than living in a tiny apartment with six other girls," Hannah stated.

"That sounds like a nightmare," I said bluntly.

"I know right." Hannah turned toward me and smiled.

I don't know why I felt shy all of a sudden and I quickly backed away. I headed toward the kitchen to get a bottle of water from the fridge.

"So what do you think so far?" Jane led Hannah out of the room and toward the kitchen.

"I like it a lot," Hannah answered.

"That's great. Why don't you two talk and get to know each other while I go speak to the property manager," Jane said.

I almost choked on my water as I stared at Jane in shock. Jane knew better then to do this to me. I could not have a proper conversation with someone without feeling awkward. Small talk was a big no in my vocabulary.

Jane gave me a small shrug before she headed toward the door.

I sped walk toward Jane as she was putting her shoes on.

"What are you doing," I whispered.

"This is a great opportunity to get to know her and see if you can live together," Jane whispered back.

"What..what if she kills me?" Well I would put up a good fight of course. All she had on me was height. Maybe I could take her in a fight?

Jane burst into laughter and slaps my shoulder. "Cara, you're so funny." She walked out of the door without sparing me another glance.

"What was so funny," Hannah called out.

"Nothing," I muttered.  It was the first time where I wished that I was not alone.
