Brianna’s Point of View:

I normally don’t go to sleep until later at night, but for this occasion, I went to bed at around ten because not only was I sick of counting the amount of times an emergency light, but I was tired and had no one to talk to. I knew that meant I would wake up early in the morning around seven, but I would find something to do.

I heard a few words being exchanged between two men’s deep, gruff, voices. I opened my eyes weakly and looked at Evra who was conversing with Angel in the door way.

Last night Evra didn’t want to leave until visiting hours were over so he sent Angel to get Ava and bring her to Kat’s parents’ house.

“Look who decided to wake.” Evra Smirked as his brother walked away. I wondered if Angel felt guilty about what I did in the bathroom after he screamed at me, but I just smiled as Evra walked over holding calla lily flowers in his large hands.

They were my favorite. The stems were long and green and a few leaves were a deep green and present as they bent up into a large bouquet of heart shaped white flowers. I absolutely adored them because of their heart shape even though they appeared to have an arrow going through it from the large nectar tip that poked through the middle.

He placed them on the nightstand and sat down next to me, picking up a switch to adjust the bed. It was a light manila colored switch with green and red buttons on it, but he knew how to use it. I know because as soon as he picked it up and looked at it, my body began to sit up with the bed.

He stopped when I was only leaning back slightly and was able to sit there. He kicked off his converse and sat back against the hospital bed next to me. He sighed looking forward at his bent up knees and torn jeans.

They were a faded grey and were torn so bad they had white strands running from the edges of the large tears. Evra’s shirt had a few bleach stains, and a small gash near the hem, but I tried to focus. I looked up at his head. His hair was a bit frizzy and poofy, I guessed from the humidity. I was in an air conditioned hospital for the past twelve hours at least, my hair was perfectly straight and thick.

It loomed over his face casting a shadow as he laid his arms on his knees and glared down.

He looked defeated.

“What’s wrong?” I asked losing my idiotic smile.

“Kat’s parents,” he replied simply like I would completely understand.

I kind of did. I mean the grandparents to your child, to your now dead girlfriend are kind of hard to face. Then again, I didn’t know his relationship with them or him and Kat. So, instead of guessing and probably jumping to conclusions, I decided to ask him about them.

“What did they do?” I asked innocently.

“Angel opened his big mouth.” He replied.

“Okay… but what does that have to do with Kat’s parents?” I asked slightly more confused.

“He told them where I was and why.” He rubbed his eyes with the ball of his palms and looked at me exhausted.

I gave him a sympathetic look.

“They know about you.” He whispered. “They don’t think it’s healthy for Ava to be in my household because of all the women that walk in and out of my door.” He said in disgust. “They think that I have women who come in and out my door.” He said with such an acid in his tone that his words were scarier than people screaming.

“Do you,” I prompted him to go on.

He sat back and his expression softened. “No, but…” he stopped.
