Chapter 42 - A Wish

Night...

It seems Miyoko is, as usual, studying hard in her room.

(She hasn't come down for dinner tonight either...)

I glance back down the hall to where the stairs lead to the second floor.

It looks like Miyoko's too busy studying again today."

"Y-yeah looks like it."

"Did you go in to check on her sometimes, Mina?" asked Raika who suddenly popped out behind my back.

"No, I don't want to interrupt her or something..."

"Honestly, Mina!"

"Eh?"

Yomiko suddenly gets mad and points her finger at me.

"Stop being so twitchitty while we're having dinner!"

"If you're so worried about Miyoko why don't you just go and check on her?!"

(Eh? What does she mean twitchitty?!)

I settle myself back down and shake my head.

"N-no I don't think I will, I'd hate to interrupt her..."

Then...

"Um...I have made her dinner...would you mind taking it to her..?" asked Rei

"Eh?!"

"That's perfect, You can see how she's doing at the same time."

Yomiko and Rei send me on my way, as Raika adds her piece as well.

"Mina, it's true that Miyoko is busy right now..."

"But I think what she really wants is to be with you too."

"Uh..."

"So I'm sure it would cheer her up to see you."

Their well meant stares encourage me to go.

I give in and accept the food to take up to her.

"Alright...I'll take this up to her and see how she is at the same time."

And so...

I stand in front of her door, carrying her dinner with me.

"Okay...in I go."

I knocked at her door.

"Hm? Who is it?"

"It's me..."

"Eh? Mina?!"

The door soon opens and she appears.

"What's the matter?" she asked with a delightful glee.

"Rei asked me to bring you some dinner."

"Oh, thanks! Come on in!"

"O-okay...if that's all right with you."

Entering the room, I can see that she's definitely been studying.

There are any number of notebooks left open on her desk.

"Sorry to disturb you."

"Don't be! I'm glad you came!"

"Put dinner over there, Would you then come and sit on the bed?"

"Eh? S-sure."

I leave the tray on the shelf and sit on the bed as she instructed.

She immediately sits down beside me.

"Miyoko...don't you need to study?"

Her head suddenly comes to rest on my knees.

"M-Miyoko?!"

"Mhn...I just want 10 minutes of break..."

"Oh..."

She cuddles up to me, using my lap as her pillow.

"Ehehehe."

(I....i am surprised at the suddenness of it all...)

(But I am pretty happy right now.)

Then...

"Hey, Mina..."

"Hm?"

"Pet me~"

"P-pet you?!"

"Yes, I want you to pet me on the head."

"Uh..."

(W-well, we are alone here after all...Why not?!)

"Mhn...That feels good~"

(She's so cute!)

She looks happy as she cuddles my lap.

But...

It's been a while since I last took a break like this..."

"Oh..."

She then lets out an exhausted sigh.

(I guess she must be tired after studying so hard.)

I whisper softly while petting her.

"Hey, Miyoko..."

"Hm?"

"I did tell you before, but if there is anything I can do be sure to let me know, okay?"

"Oh, ah..."

"Yes, alright..."

She thinks for a moment.

"I do have one wish then."

"W-what is it?"

I lean forward automatically, and her cheeks redden.

"Tomorrow is the last Sunday before the exam.."

"Yeah."

"So..."

"Let's go out on date!"
